The Writing Center Has Something For All WSSU Students by Andrea S. Crosby Have you heard that the Winston-Salem State University’s Writing Center is only for freshmen and other students who are sent there by professors to get additional help to improve their writing skills! Well, that rumor is not true! According to Mrs. Ollie McDowell, direc tor of the Writing Center, “it is very easy to get that impression but one should not be discouraged because anyone is welcome,” Mrs, McDowell also said that a student could be a great writer, but have trouble with finer points like “style” when writing resumes, research papers or business let ters. If so, the Writing Center has material to help. This may not be everyone’s weakness but what ever the problem may be, the Writing Page 7 Center also provides other material to help, such as programmed texts in spelling for basic rules, books on grammar and com position gnd filmstrips on various subjects to help irti^rove one’s writing skills. When asked for a-booster to get more students to the Writing Center Mrs. McDowell stated, “even if one doesn’t have a specific problem I would like to see more students, not only freshmen, coming to the Writing Center more often. For those of you who haven’t visited the center it is located in room 323 in the Hall- Patterson Building. New Semester Same Food By Hershela Washington Winston-Salem State University Kennedy Dining Hall, better known as “the cafe,” has been the topic of bad conversation for many years by the students, but all that is changing. The WSSU Food Service Committee met and discussed the complaints of students and the dining hall cafeteria staff. Changes are in the process to make the dining hall a pleasant and enjoyable place to eat. The committee includes Director of Student Life, Director of Auxiliary Services, SGA President, Director of Exquisito Food Ser vices and other appointed staff and student representatives. Ms. Cheryl Troutman, Director of Stu dent Life, says the students who dine in the cafe should voice their opinion to the com mittee because that is the purpose of the meetings. A survey was recently devised so that the students could rate the cafeteria services: the rated results were extremely low. Troutman feels if students were aware of why and how things were operated they would have a different opinion.
