Keeping the holiday spirit all year 'round
Happy Birthiday,
Dr. King!
By Tonja Adams
STAFF REPORTER
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. -- leader,
f)caceful fighter of freedom and equality for all
people -- was bom on Jan. 15 and lived every
moment for the struggles of all other people.
He believed in equality and justice for all men.
His birthday, after yet another struggle,
was finally made a national holiday. It is now
R federal holiday to be observed by all of those
whom he struggled for.
Happy Birthday, Dr. King!

And when they were come into the house,
they saw the young child with Mary his moth
er, and fell down, and worshiped him: and
when they had opened their treasures, they
presented unto him gifts; gold, arui frankin
cense, and myrrh. (Matthew 2:1)
Did you remember this on Christmas?
TTiis passage from the Bible is referring to the
three wise men who went to see Christ and
presented him these gifts. As we know, this is
what Christmas is about -- Christ and celebrat
ing his birthday.
But somewhere down the line, Christmas
has become too commercialized. People are
so materialistic and worried about receiving
gifts that they don't see the gift of Christ in one
another. Some people don't think about giving
to those less fortunate than they are. They
think only of receiving, receiving, receiving.
Did you give to someone less fortunate
this Christmas? Even if it was a can of food, a
toy, or a piece of clothing, at least you were
thinking of someone other than yourself.
So, for next Christmas, let this Christmas
reflection dwell with you and let us not forget
the REAL meaning of Christmas -- to help one
another as we think of Christ, who showed us
how to care for one another.
