Ms. White, who was a landslide victor in the race for the presidency, is excited about working with her new cabinet and getting the overall coopera tion of th student body. "I'm sure the cabinet will be coop erative and I'm looking forward to working with all of them," she stated. "I felt some ideas for improvements here at WSSU would help decrease stu dent apathy and bring the student body closer together," she said. Ms. White, a member of the dean's list and high honors list and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., stated that a big problem on the campus was low morale in the students. "My platform consisted of getting the student body more involved with activities happening on campus. I feel that with an open mind and an open heart, the student body will get more involved with the decisions made by the SGA," said the president-elect who assumes her position on June 1st. As president. White will work with staff and faculty members to prepare for activities concerning the student body, to press certain issues and make certain changes for the betterment of the uni versity. It is a job that requires close atten tion by White and the aid of her cabinet to make those necessary changes work. She feels very confident that she can do a good job. EuGenia Williamson, a rising senior from Reidsville, North Carolina, will reign as Miss Winston-Salem Stale University for 1989-90. Ms. Williamson, a Mass Commu nications major, said the reality of her new position hasn't effected her yet because of all the excitement. "With all of the campaigning final ly over, it hasn't had a chance to hit me yet," said Ms. Williamson. "It should start to hit me next week sometime." Ms. Williamson says she doesn't want students to look at her differently now that she's a queen. She still wants people to look to her for help as they’ve done so in the past. "A queen should not only possess beauty, but also have intelligence," she staled. "Due to the overall support of the student body and especially my familiy, I feel confident that I will represent Winston-Salem State University to the best of my ability," she further stated. Many students have suggested that Miss WSSU's selection should be in the form of a pageant instead of voting. That way the talent of the queen-to-be would be exhibited on stage. This year a forum formal was used where the panel of contestants were subjected to various questions from stu dents. "The forum lakes the place of the pageant and gives the contestants a chance to show their knowledge on campus, community, and national events," said Ms.. Williamson. "Plus, I think the decision should be placed in the hands of ihe student body as to who they want to represent them," she further slated. Ms. Williamson begins her reign as queen in the Fall of 1989 and will suc ceed the present Miss WSSU, Ms. Veronica Howard.
