The Lady Rams didn’t play that
poorly again as they defeated
Norfolk State in four sets at the
very next home game.

THEWSSU volleyball team’s
winningstreakofnineconsecutive
wins without a loss came to an
abrupt stop when they met the
Eagles of North Carolina Central
University.
Despite playing at home in
front of a home crowd, the Lady
RamswentdowntoatoughCentral
team that seemed to be well-
prepared to break the Ram s
winning streak.
The Eagles defeated the Rams in
three sets. In the first set, the
Eagles won 15-5. The back lines
of the Rams provided some good
digs and the front line put the ball
down well but as the game
progressed. Central made several
keyplaysandwentontodefeatthe
Rams.
In the second set, the Rams took
an early lead behind the steady
serving of Phyllis O’Neil and the
strong play of Donna McCoy,
Lisa Lewis and Patty Cozart.
Central surged back and took the
lead as the Rams literally just
stood there and watched. The
Lady Rams seemed to have
confusion on the court as to who
should hit the ball. Central went
on to win 15-10.
In the third set, the Lady Rams
took a six to one lead and looked
as if they were ready to play. But
even with the early lead and the
support of theRamPootballTeam
inthegym,theLadyRamscouldn t
fight off Central’s strong
comeback. Central tooka9-81ead
and never looked back as they
downed the Rams 15-8 and won
the game.
