February 1990 PAGE 4 The News Argus NCSU To Sponsor Leadership Workshop Representatives from uni versities in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia have been invited to the 11th annual Greek Leadership Work shop at North Carolina State University Sunday, March 18. The day "-long workshop will be held at NCSU’s McKinmion Center, with regis tration beginning at 8 a.m. Stu dents, faculty, staff and alumni may attend the program, spon sored by NCSU’s Department of Student Development. The registration fee, which includes a buffet luncheon, is $12 and should be paid by March 12. Barringer Establishes Endowed Scholarship At WSSU A $10,000 endowed schol arship fund has been established at Winston-Salem State Univer sity by R.H. Barringer Distrib uting Co7Anheuser-Bush Inc. The interest earned on the fund will be used to give a Budweiser Scholarship to a de serving student. Under the terms of the scholarship, the recipient must come from one of the following counties: Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell, Forsyth, Guilford or Alamance. The student also must be a rising senior in the university’s Division of Business and Economics and in good standing, as well as demonstrate financial need. In presenting a check to Chancellor Cleon F. Thompson Jr., Bob Brown, R.H. Barringer’s Winston-Salem branch manager, said, “We’re good corporate leaders and want to return something to the community.” Thompson applauded R.H. Barringer’s support, say ing that the money will help education for a deserving stu dent.: “R.H. Barringer has al ways been supportive of us, in special events and on-going,” he added. He noted that the com pany helped sponsor the university’s Bighouse Gaines Basketball Classic last Novem ber, conducts responsible-drink ing programs on campus, and provides materials for such events as Black History Month. The company also sponsored the university’s golf tournament during last October’s home coming. Income Tax Help For Seniors If you are a senior citi zen and worried about how you can get your income taxes filled out correctly, your wor ries are over. The East Win ston Branch Library will pro vide free tax assistance for older persons. Let Senior Financial Care help make your February a lovely month. CONTACT CONTACT is a 24 hours a day, 365 days a year hotline crisis center available to any one in an emotional crisis. All services are free and confiden tial. The center is located here in Winston Salem. Teen Line is a subdivision of CONTACT and has been in operation since last year. Teen Line is just what the name says, a telephone hotline just for teenagers. The hotline is also run by trained teenagers. Teen Line runs four hours a day from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Teen Line is looking for volunteers at both high school and col lege levels to answer the tele phones. Volunteers for Teen Line requires 10 hours of training. The training consist of part of contact’s policies and pro cedures taught by Jim Fatzin- ger, who is the executive di rector of CONTACT of Win ston-Salem. Other skills and training techniques taught in clude: listening skills, counsel ing skills, and on the phone training as part of an intern ship towards your training to be a phone volunteer. Dr. Willie H. Bailey, department chairman, has been encouraging majors to seek and use the expertise of fered by the center. The department will be holding meetings at Appala chian State University to pro mote a Masters degree in Busi ness Administration the week of Spring Break. The department wishes to announce that Barbara Johnson, a senior majoring in Business Administration, re ceived a Fellowship Award to study Business at Ohio State University in the fall of 1990. Upcoming events in the Department of Business and Economics: In February, there will be study sessions for the March Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) for graduate study. Other test dates are scheduled for March 17 and June 19 If you are interested in taking this test or attending the sessions, contact Dr. Bailey for more information. Scholarships are available for Accounting and Business majors. Two of these scholar ships include the Timothy Newsome and R.J.Reynolds scholarships.
