(Maximum two-minute speech on a topic assigned “on the spot; three, an Oral examination on general knowledge of the United Nations and the United Na tions System; and four, an oral examination on general knowledge of procedure (e.g., parhamentary proce dure). All colleges and univer sities invited to participate in the Model United Nations are asked to send a “school delega tion” of at least ten students. This will provide enough stu dents for the school to have three “country delegations” of three students each, and one student to serve on the Secretariat. Each college or university is also asked to send at least one fac ulty adviser. The Model United Nations will simulate three committees of the General Assembly. The Committees and issues assigned for each Committee’s work are: 1) Political Security Commit tee, Middle East; Palestinian Rights, Namibian Independ ence, and Central America; 2) Economic and Financial Com mittee, Funding of the United Nations and Third World Debt; 3) Social Humanitarian and Cul tural Committee, State of the World’s Children and Global Environmental Problems, The NCCIIE expects over 120 students and 20 faculty from eleven colleges and universities in North Carolina to partici pate in this Model United Nations. The Consortium will present 15 awards, five distinguished delegation awards, and ten distin guished individual awards. The awards will be deter mined by a student-faculty committee.
