Students Continue Jo Fight At Student Union Events
By Patrice Gibson
On Friday 6, in the Stu
dent Union yet another fight
broke out between students.
There is but one question to
ask here, “If students can
come together and protest a
teachers dismissal why then
can they not get together for
an activity of fun such as a
student union dance?”
Since entering at WSSU
in the Fall of 1986, almost
every semester a fight seems
to break out in the student
union when we are allowed
a to hold dances there.
In the past the fights

As the Editor of The
News Argus, I am fortunate
to hear both the compliments
as well as the criticisms of
the paper by it’s readers.
While I eagerly welcome
feedback both positive as
well as negative I feel it is
ridiculous for certain indi
viduals to feel that their club,
organization and/or group is
being ignored or hassled by
myself or any member of
The News Argus staff.
From time to time mem
bers of the staff of The News
Argus feel compelled to
write an Editorial about a
subject that is very dear to
that individual. The key
word is INDIVIDUAL, the
viewpoint of an Editorial is
written by an individual as
their opinion, and not as the
opinion of the publication
that it appears in.
The News Argus, wel
comes Editorials from out
side contributors as long as
seem to stem over insignificant
matters; "Like he said, that she
said, that they said." and "no
one" said, anything of signifi
cance, or the fights are started
over something that happen “2
weeks before last."
So, Student Body what is
the point in it all? When can
we come together as a student
body in a plain social function?
Is it really so hard to accom
plish, that we can get together
and just have a fun time with
out the ruckus? Why do a few
students decide to drink too
much before the party starts.
they are willing to subject their
article to the possibility of being
edited by a member of The
News Argus staff. As far as
requirements or guidelines for
Editorials and articles submit
ted for publication, the same
policy exists across the board
whether one is a staff member
or just a concerned “individual”.
All articles must be turned in
well before the deadline of the
paper, the article must be typed
(double space), the author’s
name, address, and phone num
ber must be on the article, and
the author must consent to have
their name published with their
article.
Other than these few guide
lines the possibilities are vast
for those considering submitting
an Editorial and/or article, for
publication in The News Ar
gus.
Another matter in which
there seems to be a misunder
standing is the belief that eve
rything tiiat is submitted to The
knowing full well that they will
“act” stupid when intoxicated
and could easily be provoked
into a fight, why do these indi
viduals even bother to come?
These same students are the
ones that always complain that
there is nothing to do on this
campus, that this school doesn’t
provide them with enough ac
tivities to keep them occupied.
To those students and you know
who you are, is it any wonder
that we don’t have more dances,
do you really think that going
to a party so drunk that you
could possibly be provoked into
News Argus will be pub
lished. Unfortunately, there
are times when this can not
be accomplished due to vari
ous reasons, such as: the ina
bility of the staff to reach the
author for additional informa
tion, failure to meet the
paper’s deadline, or in the case
of Editorials, the author bla-
tantiy makes untrue statements
without having the facts to
back up any accusations that
the article makes. Failure to
follow any of these guidelines
will automatically rule out
publication by The News Ar
gus.
If the writer of an Edito
rial and/or an article is willing
to follow these minor guide
lines, the possibilities are
many. So if you feel the need
to voice your personal feelings
and/or submit an article call
The News Argus, in order to
find out when our deadline is
and then lift up your voice and
say what’s on your mind.
starting a fight does this really
seem like the cool thing to do
to you? If this same student
would exercise the same drive
in their field of studies WSSU
would be turning out brains left
and right.
For those of you involved
in the fight Friday, “Pray tell
God gave you enough sense to
leave well enough alone” and
find some other outlet rather
than trashing the student union
and ruining what littie privileges
the rest of the students on this
campus enjoy.
Best Wishes
