mishaps in the news. Hazing
reports are one-sided just like
the some news stories the
media reports are one-sided.
Mixed feelings have been
heard around campus about
the “lines”. Most students say
that its silly and embarrassing.
Here are some questions for
you: Why do the pledgees
have your undivided attention?
Why do you come out in the
cold to watch them step
around campus? Why do you
find the time to watch them?
Some students have even
made comments that if they
would’ve known about the
new policy that they would’ve
tried to pledge this year. These
students are mislead - there is
more than pledging a Greek
organization. After you be
come a Delta, Alpha, Zeta,
AKA, Sigma or Omega,
there’s alot of work involved.
Joining any Greek organiza
tion is a lifetime commitment.
Basically it takes funds to im
plement public service activi
ties. Each organization finds
itself sponsoring fundraising
events, such as parties, hot
dog sales and other profit
making activities to operate
effectively.
Omega Psi Phi has do
nated $1,000 to the univer
sity, United Way Fund and
other organizations; Zeta Phi
Beta sponsors blood drives;
Alpha Kappa Alpha has
worked with the salvation
army; Delta Sigma Theta has
worked the local soup
kitchen; Alpha Phi Alpha has
sponsored trips to basketball
games for youth and Phi Beta
Sigma has sponsored programs
about positive thinking.
Spring
Step Show
Held
By Georgellen Brown
The Pan Hellenic Coun
cil held their annual spring
Step Show on April 6, 1990
in closing of Greek Week.
Full participation was not
adequate, for only two fra
ternities and two sororities
participated in the show, out
of the eight Greek organiza
tions. The Delta Alpha
Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma
took first place in the frater
nity category. The Beta Iota
Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha
was in competition, but in my
opinion, did an exhibition
step. They just gave the au
dience a taste of what was to
come at their dance which
was to be held at Polo’s the
same night. Unfortunately,
due to circumstances beyond
their control, the dance was
canceled, and so they did not
get to show their bad *!#
Alpha stuff.
As for the sorority com
petition, the Gamma Lambda
Chapter of Alpha Kappa Al
pha took first place, accord
ing to the judges. But, the
