The News Argus October 1990 Page 12 Foye is optimistic about Lady Rams Coach Johnnie Foye BY STEPHEN SMITH Sports Editor Just because the women’s volleyball team has a new coach doesn’t mean that the Lady Rams are in a complete transition. That’s hardly the case for Johnnie Foye. As an assistant last year under A1 Roseboro, she is familiar with the team — its strengths and weaknesses. “I feel this year will be a very rewarding yet a very challenging experience for me as well as the girls” explained Coach Foye. “I think one of the major flaws we must correct is our conditioning. Foye feels that a number of the team’s losses this year as well as last year are attributable to fatigue That’s why the Lady Rams go through rigorous exercise routines daily. WSSU won 20 matches last season, but they had losing records againt the elite teams in the CIAA, dropping three matches to North Carolina Central two to powerful St Augustine’s. Foye, however, is confident that her ladies will be able to meet the challenge as the season progresses. “If we work together as a team, we can beat anybody” Foye said. She has good reason to be optimistic. Melissa Williams, the team’s No. 1 hitter is performing splendidly. Williams is also getting strong support from Stormy e Crutchfield and Margie Jones. At presstime, WSSU was 3-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play. That’s not a bad for a new coach with new ideas. The future looks bright for the Lady Rams.
