Homecoming Greetings From The Editor
By JOANIE TUTTLE
NEWS ARGUS Editor
Welcome alumni, parents,
faculty and students.
As we celebrate Homecoming
1990, WSSU faces a new decade
in which we look forward to some
very positive changes.
Thanks to some very generous
corporate donations, WSSU’s
Centennial plans are well
underway. Plans for the campus
Student Voices
It is important that all students
participate in the November 6th
election.
This year's race is vital to the
state of North Carolina, as well as
the United States. Minorities have
traditionally voted a straight
Democratic ticket. It is never good
to vote a straight ticket because the
probability of all of any parties’
candidates reflecting your ideas on
government are very remote.
We must all be responsible and
include a new and larger student
union, cafeteria, a bell tower, and
other projects. All of the projects
will enable WSSU to better
compete with other area schools,
which in turn, will help WSSU
become an even better university
to attend.
Corporations such as R. J.
Reynolds and Sara Lee have
generously contributed millions of
dollars to WSSU. These
contributions couldn’t have come
vote for issues rather than party
affiliation.
There are two very interesting
races in our state. The two races are
indeed very controversial. Harvey
Gantt and Jesse Helms have attracted
national attention.
It is your job to cast your vote
for the person whose ideas reflect
your own.
Gantt seems to have received the
endorsement of our student body. I
encourage you to contribute your
at a better time since many UNC-
System universities are
experiencing very difficult times
thanks to the state- wide budget
cuts.
Fortunately, here at WSSU,
departments have learned to be
more careful with the resources
they have and to be creative in
acquiring items they want or
need. Fortunately, everyone
realizes that gluttony will no
longer be accepted if we are to
money, time, and any other support
that you can offer.
The second controversial race,
is the race between Stephen Neal
and Ken Bell.
Neal, undoubtedly has more
money than BeU. But students will
have to choose between Bell - who
has taken time out to come on
campus and talk to students at
WSSU -- or Neal who has been in
office for 16 years.
It is very important that the lack
succeed in our fight for survival
in the future. Thanks to loyal
alumni, friends and parents,
WSSU will undoubtedly survive
what ever comes our way.
Numerous Homecoming
activities have been planned, so
this weekend is sure to be one that
will be remembered. Let’s all
participate in a way to reflect our
maturity and support for the Rams,
so that everyone will be able to
return next year!
of campaign volunteers or money
does not determine the outcome of a
political race.
It is imperative that you vote and
that you encourage others to vote.
Our forefathers struggled so that we
would have the opportunity to vote.
You owe it to yourself and the
community to participate in the
election . Please remember to vote on
Tuesday.
