Rena' Williams Staff Writer There are many gifted and talented students here at WSSU. One of these students is Lena Hopkins, a sophomore from Charlotte NC, majoring in Art. Lena has been drawing and interested in art since she was three years old. She was first aspired by her father, an artist as well. Other admired artist include: Emie Barnes, Honeywood, and Walt Disney, who were all animation artist. When asked whose footprints she would follow in years to come, she replied "none" and stated that her intentions are to make and have her own style and become known as a pioneer. Another goal, she has set for herself is to one day create her own original Black cartoon, not a stereotypical one, but an original cartoon. Lena's first love is drawing caricatures and hopes to become well known for it. Her plans are to make money drawing caricatures and use that money to put herself through school. Lena prefers to draw caricatures over portraits because she feels she can create and use her imagination more. Lena hopes to one day become a commercial/animation artist and illus&ate for children's books. Lena is not only active in the art department but she is also a member in the Rams Marching Band. This past February, she had the opportunity to attend the CIAA basketball tournament in Richmond VA. She took her drawing board with her and created the silk screens for this year's tee shirts. Lena Hopkins is a good example of a student climbing her way up the success ladder. Good luck Lena and much continued success.
