If so, do you know why they have been installed on campus? Well, if you haven’t seen any of these devices and have no idea why they are here or where they can be found you are not alone. They are called Emergency Call Boxes. And they were installed to help students with, you guessed it. emergencies. The Emergency Call Boxes the newest additions to secure the campus, are designed to provide quick and easy access to security police and students in case of an emergency. These yellow boxes with black lettering can be found in several areas around campus such as: near the Whitaker Gym, the F.L. Atkins Nursing Building, the K.R. Williams Auditorium, the Anderson Center, in front of Moore Hall, between Atkins and Dillard Hall and in front of the Fine Arts Building. These Emergency Call Boxes are Watch Where You Park Your Car By Robert Staff It’s a mess. What’s going on out here? School is back in session and parking is a mess. Nobody can find a parking spot anywhere near their destination, especially the commuting student, faculty, and staff. What is going on? You can ask anyone and they would probably say what ever it is, it’s nothing good. Have you noticed parking is no longer permitted in front of Bickett Hall and the old library at any time? Most people who park in those spaces haven't paid any attention to the changes. Personally, I think they should have left the spaces in front of the library. How secure do you feel about leaving your car on campus over the weekend, when you have somewhere designed to help people on campus 24 hours a day wherever they are located. Each box is numbered and very easy to use. When you sense danger just push the button on the box, reveal your location and the campus police will come to your rescue. Even though these Emergency Call Boxes have been installed for more than ten months there are a number of students who do not know these emergency devices exist. According to Avon Harding, the coordinator of WSSU campus police, notices were posted on the Personnel Department bulletien board and the arrival of the boxes was announced on WSNC-FM 90.5. Recently a local television station featured the boxes in a segment concerning security on campus. In the last ten months an Emergency Call Box has only been used once to assist a student who| was locked out of a building at night. When it was reported to WSSU police, they were told the area where the cars had been vandalized or stolen from had been frequently patroled. But in the past few months several cars still have been stolen or vandalized while parked on campus. Maybe there will be more protection on campus since a new policyhas been established. The policy states that if you do not have a valid WSSU student or faculty identification card and a decal on your car, you must park it in the lot behind the R.J.R. Building after 7:00 p.m.. Will He Stay or Leave? By Kelley Goodman Sports Editor Over the Thanksgiving Holiday the Bayou Classic was played in Louisiana. After the game, it was mentioned that Coach Richardson was one of the five finalist for the coaching job at Southern. The rumor that had been circulating throughout the College Football world that Coach Pete Richardson is going to Southern University (La.) to coach football can end. He is not going! Ram fans can understand Southern’s interest in Richardson because he is the type of coach who can come into a program and be successful with limited personnel. He has the knack to bring out the best qualities in any type of player, because he stresses the importance of believing in yourself and your own abilities. “ If you don’t believe in your heart you can win, you won’t win,” is one of Richardson’s favorite sayings. “Coach Rich” is more than a coach, he is a friend. His door is always open to players with any type of problems. Coach Richardson has assured the News Argus Sports Staff that he is not going to leave WSSU. This gives the Ram Football Team, Fans, and WSSU a reason to breathe a sigh of relief.
