If you enjoy speaking Spanish or want
to leam to speak Spanish, then you need to
check out the Spanish Club. The Spanish
Club is back on the yard and they are
seeking members who are interested in
the Spanish language or culture.
“I want the Spanish Club to be a
strong organization on campus, says
Shanta Yelverton, a sophomore, English
major and secretary of the Spanish Club.
The Spanish Club held its first Taco
Sale in December 1993 in Dillard Hall.
The club’s members really enjoyed the
fellowship with each other and making
money. Everyone was running around
fixing Tacos and helping one another.
“ The class is like a big family were
like sisters and brothers, I just enjoy being
around them,” said Ronald Thorpe a
junior. Sports Management major.
Bridie Bray, director of the Language
Laboratory, and Dr. Micheal Brookshaw,

“We had a group of students this year
who were interested in reactivating the
Spanish Club ,” explained Dr. Brookshaw.
The Spanish Club had been dormant
for the past year because of lack of interest
on liie part of the students but this year the
Spanish Club has come back with a
vengeance.
Members of the Class of 1997 have
become involved in numerous
organizations since becoming part of the
Ram Family.
Several of them have become very
active members of the Spanish Club. The
Spanish Club officers are: Deneen Clarke,
president, a freshman Political Science
major; Valerie Harrington, vice president,
a freshman Political Science major; and
Shanta Yelverton, secretary, a sophomore,
English major.
The Spanish Club members are also
involved in numerous community
activities. One of its tentative activities
for the Spring Semester involves helping
Adults with Disabilities who want to leam
how to speak Spanish.
The Spanish Club’s first fundrai.ser
for the Spring semester was its annual
Valentine’s Day lollipop sale on February
14,1994.
What does the Spanish Club hope to
accomplish as a group in 1994?
According to the club’s president, “ we
hope to go to Mexico or visit a city in the
United States that has a large Hispanic
population. This way wc will be able to
use the Spanish that we have learned in
Dr. Brookshaw’s class to communicate
with people whose native language is
Spanish.”
