Violence
Violence stems from prejudicial aggression
Idiotic animosity towards another human being
Overwhelming need to pester people for attention
Ludicrous taunting not only heard but seen
Envy makes people commit violent acts
Note - you would be branded a troublemaker
Courage is gained apologize and make a pact
Elevate your negative energy into positivity
Violence will be eliminated on more hypocrisy
Racial Prejudice
Everyday I get the overwhelming sensation to
cry
Because the barrier between racial prejudice
hasn’t died
Tempers flare in Blacks, Whites, Asians, Indians,
and Hispanics
No one gives in, war starts, the idea makes me
sick
One love, peace, harmony don’t mean much
anymore
A power struggle is going on, everyone wants
supremacy, everyone wants to score
Kids are caught between this fight, a day in , day
out, sU'uggle to survive
Teach the kids about the Civil Rights Movement,
the lost of courageous people lives
Lives were lost because they believed, kept up the
struggle, didn’t lose the dream
The dream to be free, treated as an equal, progresss
has been made, stop letting off steam
Dr. King strived hard to bring an end to racial
prejudice, segregation
He endured pain, humiliation and death for the
future generation
The purpose was for all races to come together as
one
Racial prejudice should have ended after the
departure of this great man
Let us unite, make a better place for ourselves and
our innocent children
Stop racism , make the world a more spiritual
togetherness like heaven
Who I AM
I am who I am which is black
Proud of my heritage and myself
Treat me not like air pollution
My color is one of many on a shelf
The cupboard where my blackness is stored
Sitting in harmony with other spice
No complaints or segregated compartments
This environment is quite nice
Imagine me on my own leaving my abode
1 am human, entering a su-ange place
Society see me as a minority, how keen
I am branded, stereotyped because of my race
Rub my exterior, 1 will not change
I should be judged by interior qualities
Not like the smog that pollute the world
Or because of my capital equities
Family
Family symbolizes togetherness, a strong bond
Affection for relatives you’re exU-emely fond
Marriage and birth relationships remain very close
Idle curiosity break the bond between most
Letting meddlesome people leave you and kin
angry
Years down the line, friends gone, what’s left,
FAMILY

cars in the first available space.
Many faculty and staff members
have complained to the WSSU Security
Department about not being able to park in
designated faculty lots or spaces near the
buildings where they work. The most
common resnonse received is, “there are
plenty of spots down by the Gaines
Center.”
Mrs. Patricia Martin, the Department
of Life Sciences’ secretary said, “ I paid
$50 for a parking sticker and I have
nowhere to park. I have to park where
ever there is an opening.”
“I really don’t think there is a parking
problem,” said Mrs. Elvita Hunt, WSSU’s
telecommunications operator. “After I
visited East Carolina University and heard
that they paid more than $100 for a
parking decal per semester (and this still
does not guarantee them a space) I stopped
complaining.”
Mrs. Derrinita Manuel, a member of
the Department of English and Foreign
Languages faculty and Dr. Abhijit Sen, a
member of the Mass Communications
faculty, both say they now just park their
cars in the lot behind R. J. Reynolds.

congested areas to park are near Hall-

allowed to travel across to the main
campus because they will have new
parking stickers,” explained Lewis.
“Parking will be enforced next semester.
If you don’t have a decal you will be
towed.”
According to Lewis, construction will
also be going on near Brown Hall, which
will close that lot to cars; but with the
opening of the new dorm 100 spaces
should become available.

front of entrances or in driveways which
could result in causing accidents.
A year ago. Campus Security initiated
a Color Coded (parking zones) System
to help prevent people from parking in the
wrong locations. Most people who park
on campus feel this system probably works
35 per cent of the time.
James Lewis, WSSU’s director of
Security, feels that the parking problem
will ease up after the new residence haii
opens in Spring 1994. “Students who live
