The News Argus Page 8 ENTERTAiNMENT Vibes, Beats, and... BY QUEYANA WOODS. VICTOR JACKSON AND KIMBERLEY TERRY Staff Writers The Entertainment Staff of The News Argus presents reviews of three Compact Discs that you should definitely listen to or purchase. Included this month are Anita Baker, Boogiemonsters and Witness. Anita Baker Rhythm of Love Elektra Records This album presents restrained vocals over sophisticated production crafting. Just one word, artistry describes Anita Baker’s hits such as “You Belong to Me," "Body and Soul” and “Wrong Man." She travels on mostly familiar terrain rarely stretching beyond her signature sonic path. “Sometimes I Wonder Why” hits with powerful vocal and musical arrangements as well. Several good songs are available on this album that will satisfy the "diehard" Anita Baker fans and win new ones. This album definitely deserves a 9! Boogiemonsters Riders of the Storm Pendulum Records For those Hip Hop fans who would like to escape some of the angry sounds of today’s rap music or get away from the blunt and gun themes, Boogiemonsters definitely provides that escapism on their phat debut album. This cool relaxing CD is an alternative that truly fits the name of this group. Boogiemonsters are a cross between A Tribe Called Quest and Pharcyde with their thought-provoking lyrics and relaxing mellow music that is consistently phat all the way to the 13th track. Boogiemonsters consist of four rappers: Mondo, Vex, Yodard, and Mynthric. They deliver a perfect lyrical flow to their funk, horrific, electric sound. Using instruments like the organ, violins, guitar, and xylophones, Boogiemonsters adds a different sound that will mark this debut album as a future classic. They will groove you with the butter singles A track that stands out lyrically is “Muzik Appreciation,” which is a song where the group expresses their love for music so much that if it was in physical form they would embrace it as if it was a female. Boogiemonsters: Riders of the Storm is a CD worth buying, and it’s definitely an escape from the anger and self-destructing themes in Hip Hop now.
