December 1994 The News Argus - Page 13 CAMPUS HAPPENING — ADVICE • ADVICE • ADVICE • ADVICE • ADVICE • ADVICE • ADVICE • Dear Shana, 1 really like this girl, but she doesn’t even know that I exist . She has a boyfriend but he treats her very badly and 1 am sure that I could treat her better!!! How can I approach this girl without causing any conflict between her boyfriend and myself? Lost In Love Dear Lost, You have two choices. Either wait for her to approach you(which according to you seems very unlikely) or approach her and make yourself an indisposeable friend 10 her. Eventually Mr. Wonderful will get on her nerves and you can be right there to pick up the pieces! Remeber-timing and discretion are everything and patience is definitely a virtue. As for her boyfriend, he will get over it! Shana Dear Shana, A person on our floor has a serious problem with body odor. Everyone has noticed it but no one knows how to tell him. Please help us!!! Severely Nauseated Dear Nauseated, Be nice, considerate, polite and discreet; but most of all be sure to tell this person they need to check their body’s odor. Dont try to hurt his feelings but do make him aware that he has a problem then offer him suggestions on how to solve it. Also remember, what is obvious to you may not be so obvious to him. Therefore, think about how you would want to be approached and give him the same respect. Good luck!!! Shana Dear Shana, 1 am involved in a relationship with a guy who is 33- years- old and I am only 21-years-old. I really like him a lot but I can’t tell my parents, because they will definitely disapprove. What should I do? Thinking Dear Thinking, In this state 21-years-old is legal age, so follow your heart. If you do decide to go ahead with things as they are though, give it some time and your parents may accept this man. Don’t stop reaching out to them, however, because family is forever, this relationship could be over next week. Shana Dear Shana, I have a serious problem! My best friend is a guy and 1 am starting to have very deep feelings for him! We have been friends since junior high school and care about each other deeply, but I don’t know if 1 should tell him how I am feeling. If I do how should 1 go about it? Helpless iMve Dear Helpless, You arc right! There is nothing more helpless than a person who knows what they have to do and doesn’t have the guts to do it!! If you love him-iell him so. If he is a true friend he will either let you down easy or give you a straight-up green light. Chances are, if you are as close as it seems, he probably has romantic feelings for you too. Take a load off of your mind ....just tell him!!! Shana Could Tuition Costs Increase in 1995? BYJAMITA GRIFFIN Editor Is Tuition increasing and your finances decreasing? Does it seem that you may not finish school in the designated four years? Well, there is one more problem you may have to face. In 1993, the General Assembly directed the Board of Governors to establish a 25 percent tuition surcharge for students taking more than 140 degree credit hours in four year program or degree credit hours in a five year program. The General Assembly also directed the Board of Governors to ensure that students at each campus average 15 credit hours per semester. For students in the UNC system, this may be a problem. On December 1, 1994, the SGA along with members of the Freshman and Sophomore Classes began stuffing envelopes with letters to the parents of all students attending WSSU. The letter contained information explaining how this law can effect students here at WSSU. They also enclosed a letter for parents to send to the legislators and senators. Because many students come to the University with different levels of preparatory classes, some feel that students may be put behind in their four year curriculum. The students that have to work while attending school also have a disadvantage. Some feel that for the students that have to work during the summer and are not able to attend summer school to lake in those extra classes, they may be at a disadvantage. Also, the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s minimum number of hours is 12 hours per semester (instead of NC’s proposed 15.) NC athletes would be at a disadvantage in any national competition against athletes that could take 12 hours. There are other issues ignored by this law. Double majors and academic minors would not be able to be pursued without financial burden because these courses would push students past the four year deadline. This discourages academic freedom. The Student Legislation Task Force here at WSSU are asking parents to call the legislators and senators or send them the letter to voice their concerns. They are not asking that the Bill be repealed, but that they make some exceptions.
