Tuition Costs Increasing
Since entering this University in the fall of
1991, tuition has been raised three times. The
qualities that I once looked for in choosing a
school, have now changed. When choosing a
school, 1 looked for one that was in North
Carolina, predominately black, and one that
would not send my family to “the poor house.”
Over the next two weeks, WSSU parents
will be receiving a letter from WSSU’s
Chairperson of the Student Legislation Task
Force which addresses a tuition surcharge.
According to the letter, the General
Assembly has directed the Board of Governors
to establish a 25 percent tuition surcharge for
students taking more than 140 degree credit
hours in four-year programs or degree credit
hours in a five year program. This bill also
states that the minimum credit hours per
semester be raised to 15 at each campus in the
UNC’s system.
Yes, some WSSU students are lazy and
would like to make a career out of going to
school, but in some cases it is almost impossible
to graduate in four years. For certain programs
such as Nursing or Physical Therapy, where
there are waiting lists, it is very rare that a
student graduates in four years. For a parent
who has to work while attending school, this
may also cause a problem. Or maybe, the
degree-granting curriculum won’t allow
students to graduate in the four year limit
because some classes are not offered every
academic year or every other semester. There
are plenty of reasons why this bill should be
opposed or amended.
I am personally asking that all students and
parents participate with the Student Legislation
Task Force and help strike this bill. Your
education should not depend on your income!

Where’s the Beef?
This question is being asked,
along with why can’t the cafetcria
stay open later? Why does the
cafeteria serve potato chips with
lasagna? Why does the ice machine
run so slow? Yet the students yield
to seek answers to these questions.
Why? You tell me!!

Student Congress
Greeting Fellow Rams! I have
the honor of serving as Vice-President
of the Winston-Salem State University
Student Body.
I am very concerned about the
student apathy shown here at WSSU
and 1 desperately need your help in an
attempt to begin the rebirth of a New
Ram Era.
In my efforts, I am asking for
each person to attend the Student
Congress meetings which will be held
bi-monthly. This meeting is one
which allows the students to express
concerns, problems onissues relating
to their
matriculation at'
WSSU. 1 am
asking that each
organization on
campus attend
these meetings
so they can

organizations.
Please attend Student Congress
