I am a student advocate and V/SSU is a very important part of my life. I am for all student activities but it is important that each program be a good, positive experience,” said Winston-Salem State University’s new Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. Dr. Francine Giles Madrcy, the new vice chancellor, has been accused of trying to change things students have been doing for decades here at WSSU. She says that she’s not here to change anything but to administer concern for a culturally rich environment and “tasteful” student activities. Dr. Madrey is deeply concerned about administrative and student needs. She wants to enhance the level of communication whether it be student/administration, administration/administration, or student/student. She has an interest in rebuilding school pride and student involvement. “ I don’t feel that the university is behind at all but according to a survey on 1991 WSSU graduates, there were some low perceptions,” said Madrey. “It is important to adhere to certain standards and it is necessary for WSSU to be in compliance with these standards, (budget management, safety in the residence halls, security of student record, etc.).
