The News Argus February 1995 Page 3 CAMPUS HAPPENINGS Griffin Joins Mass Communication^ Staff RYCRLRNAWYNN Staff Writer A Broadcast Engineer is an important person at radio and television stations around the world. On February 1, 1995 a new engineer joined the Department of Mass Communications' staff. Baxter Griffin, a former production engineer at WXII Channel 12, the local ABC affiliate, is now a new member of the Ram Family. “1 enjoy working in television and radio and feel more comfortable working in support roles, “ said Griffin who is the broadcast engineer for WSNC 90.5 and WSSU’s Television Studio. Griffin’s job as engineer will include routine maintenance of equipment at the radio station and in the television studio, distributing equipment to radio station students and Mass Communications majors when they are working on projects and assisting students in producing programs in the renovated television studio. “He brings a lot of experience from WXII TV . He will enhance radio and television operations on both the technical and creative levels,” said Dr. Brian Blount, chairman of the Department of Mass Communications. “ I welcome him aboard. He’ll be a great asset to she department and the students, “ said Joe Watson, general manager of WSNC-FM 90.5 . Griffin attended A&T State University and Forsyth Technical Community College where he obtained his Certification in Electronics. He was an announcer at WAAA- 980 AM; announcer and assistant program director at WAIR-1340 AM; and he previously freelanced as a theatre/stage technican here at WSSU. “I’m very happy with the new job. It gives me more responsibilities and opportunities to work with the students, “ said Griffin. Griffin is a member of the Triad Black Media Professionals and is married to the former Vanessa Scales, a 1980 WSSU Nursing graduate. They have a 5- year-old daughter, Raven Nichole.
