Huntley needs 210 yards in his final game against Virginia State to become the NCAA’s all time leading rusher. The Rams improved to 3-4-2 and 2-3-2 in conference play. BY WILUAM HORTON Sports Editor NCCU 42-WSSU 19 Not even the rain could keep over 16,000 fans away as they watched NCCU take advantage of four WSSU turnovers on special teams play en route to 42-19 victory. It was not a pretty homecoming for Ram fans as the Eagles jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. But third string quarterback, Juwan Tune, came off the bench and gave the Ram offense some spark. WSSU closed the gap to 21-19 with 6:58 left in the third quarter. But tumovCTS did the Rams in as the poor weather conditirais forced two fumbles and two punts were blocked by the Eagles' special teams. NCCU took advantage and cruised to victory. Richard Huntley continued his assault on the recoid books. He rushed for 229 yards on 29 carries before leaving the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury. Huntley upped his total for the season to 1,504 yards. The Eagles improve to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the CIAA, while the Rams fell to 2-3-2, and 1-2-2. Bowie State 20 - WSSU 7 A controversial ejection of Richard Huntley late in the third quarter was all Bowie State needed to win its second CIAA game. Huntley was ejected late in the third quarter when officials ruled that he threw a punch after a tackle on an interception. Huntley was held to season low of 52 yards rushing. The Rams tried to overcome a stingy Bulldog defense that limited the offense to 109 yards rushing, and 190 total yards. The Rams fell to 2-4-2 overall and 1-3-2 in the CIAA. WSSU 43 - Virginia Union 0 The Winston Salem State Rams got back on the winning track by handing out a 43-0 beating to Virginia Union. Subbing for a suspended Richard Huntley in the first half, senior fullback, Haywood Cloud took up the slack and wound up having a career l3y. Cloud rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns and Carl Walker threw a 25-yard strike to Randall Carter en route to a 23-0 halftime lead. The second half belonged to Richard Huntley.
