‘The SPA Network is a way for us to
get together and talk about motivational
issues and ideas to help one another,”
said Deborah Chaney, president of
WSSU’s network.
The Salary Personnel Act or the
SPA Network consists of employees of
the State of North Carolina. Middle
management personnel who work for the
state can also become members of the
network.
The SPA Network was organized
August 18, 1987, with a mission to use
the intelligent creativity skills of all the
SPA members. Its aims are to further the
university’s goals and objectives through
enhancing personal growth, developing
support groups through positive
mentoring, and job training experience.
The SPA Network participates in
campus and community functions. The
group was quite active during the
Chancellor’s Investiture. It also
sponsors the secretarial luncheons held
for the university’s secretarial staff.

the organization and students from
WSSU participated in the Juvenile
Diabetes Walkathon on September 14.
Currently the network has 74
members, but Chaney says, “Anyone
who wants to join us is welcome to join.”
The network meets on the third Thursday
of each month, and dues are $12,
annually.
