To WSNC-FM’s Staff

No one really knows who the sofl
spoken, shy woman is who greets visitors
that enter WSNC 90.5 FM’s reception
area.
From the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 12:30
in the afternoon, she sits quietly, hardly
noticed, at the receptionist’s desk giving
staff and visitor’s a friendly smile and
hello as they enter.
“She’s more than just a volunteer,
she’s part of our family. She keeps us in
good spirits,” said Eryca Burch, a
WSNC-FM 90.5 staff member. “Since I
am a senior. I’ll miss her when I’m
gone.”
P.R. White, one of the station’s
announcers said, “She’s a nice, friendly
lady and it’s a privilege to have her
working with us.”
Who is she? Her name is Annie
Sherrill, a native of Winston-Salem, who
was raised in Virginia. She lives here
with her foster son and said she enjoys
working at the radio station.
“1 like it, it’s completely different
from what 1 was doing. I had to learn
about the business part of this and things
that 1 didn’t know,” Sherrill staled.
Before she became the receptionist at
the station, Sherrill was an exercise
instructor at Mt. Zion Day Care for
Seniors. She was also the leader of the
senior citizen’s musical group, “The
Rhythm Band.”
Sherrill’s employment at the radio
station was made possible through the
Winston-Salem Urban League’s Seniors
in Community Service Program, which is
funded by the U.S. Dept, of Labor. The
program employs senior citizens 55 years
and older. The goal of this program is to
give seniors the opportunity to gel the
skills to go back to the workplace.
Employees go through an application
process and their previous work
experience is what places them in the jobs
they receive.
Joe Watson, general manager of
WSNC 90.5 staled, ”We were very
excited to work with the Urban League in
acquiring the services of Ms. Sherrill.
She’s been a tremendous benefit to the
growth of WSNC and all the students
love her.”
Sherrill has been involved with the
Urban League since June 1992, and
November 23 will mark her one year
anniversary with WSNC-FM 90.5

“ You need to drop that so called

did you smack me so hard? Why did you

Biron began walking towards a
building where he saw a group of guys
wearing sweatsuits standing in front of.
“Excuse me,” he said to one of them.
"Could you tell me where I need to
go? I have a basketball scholarship.”
The guy turned around, his eyes
were blood red, half open and watery.
“Yeah man, you are in the right place.
I’m Ray.” The guy extended his hand to
shake Biron’s hand. “I’m Biron, but
people back home call me ‘D’.” Ray and
Biron shook hands. “Where is back
home?” “Miami,” Biron answered.
Ray’s eyes opened wide and a smile
sneaked across his face. He smiled and
said, “Miami! Yeah me and you gonna
be real cool. Real cool.”
Biron relumed the smile. Only he
didn’t exactly understand what Ray
meant. All he knew was that he was here
to play ball and that is what he intended
to do...

“So this is Baker State University,”
Biron Falla thought as he stood in front
of the RegisU'ar’s Office. “I should have
known.”
He bent down to pick up his brown

group of girls walking his way. “Well ,”
