November 1996 The News Argus Page 8 ENTERTAINMENT Tlovie, SLe.vte-ws BY JACQUES ROUSE AND DOUGLAS CLARK, JR. Editors The Glimmer Man Jack Cole played by (Steven Seagal) is a cop, who is summoned from New York to Los Angeles to help solve the case of a serial killer. The serial killer is preying on innocent families in Los Angeles. The accused killer, murders individuals because he believes that Jesus told him to do it. The LAPD is forced to summon Detective Cole. He is chosen because this case is the riskiest, most sensitive coven assignments that Los Angeles has ever seen. Cole (Seagal) is a very calm, spiritual individual who believes that through meditation, prayer, and belief that anything may be accomplished. Arriving in Los Angeles, Cole is partnered with local homicide detective, Jim Campbell (Keenen Ivory Wayans). The plot gels thickens when Campbell becomes suspicious of Cole. Cole remains a quiet and secretive cop that Campbell can only guess what he’s really thinking. Together the two detectives make a great team in solving this puzzling, complicated murder case. This action- packed thriller definitely gets two thumbs up. The First Wives Club The First Wives Club starring Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton is a story about three close friends who graduated from Middlebury College in 1969 with hopes and dreams of great careers and a bright future. Ironically, all three women sacrificed their careers bccause they fell in love and got married. For over 20 years these friends never kept in touch with each other because they were unhappy with their marriages, career decisions, life in general and worst of all - because they gave up on themselves. Get On The Bus Spike Lee's Get On The Bus, a Columbia Pictures' movie, explores the lives of a group of men who leave from Los Angeles to attend the Million Man March in Washington, D.C. The men on the bus are from all walks of life. Ossie Davis, who plays Jermiah, is the oldest passenger on the bus. Andre Braugher (who plays a detective on "Homicide"), provides the humor on the bus. He plays Flip, an actor. A gay couple is also on the bus. Randall (Harry Lennix) and Kyle, a former Marine(Isaiah Washington) discuss their relationship, among other things, during the bus ride. Jamal (Gabriel Casseus), a newly convert Muslim and Xavier (Hill Harper), a young film student, are also passengers on the bus. Xavier plans to capture the sights of the March on film when he arrives in Washington. A father and son duo also ride the bus to D.C. Evan Thomas Sr., (Thomas Byrd) and DeAundre Bonds (Junior, who is a teenage swindler), board the bus in handcuffs. You will have to see the movie to find out more about them. The bus is driven by George (Charles Dutton), who was also the trip's organizer. This movie is definitely about unity and the significance of the March. Several black businessmen helped Lee to fmancc this movie. This is a must see movie. BY DOUG CLARK AND DANIELLE PROPHETH Staff Writers Your Secret Love Luther Vandross Luther Vandross’ latest album, “Your Secret Love,” released on Epic/Sony Music Entertainment Inc., earlier this fall, is a “must-add” for your collection of his classics. In addition to acting as the album’s executive producer, Vandross also co-wrote and co-produced all of the songs. The first release, “Your Secret Love,” is very relaxing and will help you unwind after a busy day. The album contains two duets. “1 Can’t Wait No Longer (Let’s Do This)” featuring Deidra “Spindcrella” Roper of Salt-N-Pcpa, is one of them. This is a great U"ack for those lovers of hip-hop music. The second duet , “Whether Or Not The World Gets Better,” featuring Lisa Fischer, has great harmony. Vandross and Fischer send out a lot of feeling in their performances. If you , enjoy slow-dancing in the dark, you may want to play “It’s Hard For Me To Say,” over and over again with that special someone in your life. Secrets Toni Braxton Toni Braxton is one of the most promising divas of the 90’s. With her sophisticated sound and traditional R&B style she is in a class with some of the top divas like Whitney Houston and Anita Baker. Her second album SECRETS, which includes the already released singles. “You’re Makin Me High,” “Un-Break My Heart,” and “Let It Flow,” off the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack, consists of strong meaningful ballads like, “Talking In His Sleep,” and “I Love Me Some Him,” just to name a few. On this album Braxton looks at all angles of love and relationships and doesn’t just magnify the bad ones. SECRETS is filled with original music-no samples-no remakes. The album features other artists such as Shanice, Tony Rich, Chante’ Moore, R. Kelly and Babyface. It is no secret that Toni Braxton is destined to repeat her success.
