May 1997 The News Argus - Page 7 FEATURES Graduates: Where Are You Going? BY DAVID FULTON. MONICA ALEXANDER, DOUGLAS CLARK AND SHARONDA WILCOX Staff Writers Across the U.S., for the next six weeks, thousands of college students will be graduating from universities and and colleges. This momentous ocassion will begin a new chapter in their lives. Many will begin new lives in graduate school, at jobs, in the military and in married life. The News Argus would like to salute several members of the Class of 1997 whose career plans have already been made. Zechariah Hargett Is currently working at Triad Academy as a math/science teacher for grades 6-12. He plans to attend East Tennessee University's graduate school in the spring of 1998. “Graduating is a sensational feeling because you put so much into your classes and your main goal is to graduate and be employed after graduating from WSSU. That’s what I’ve accomplished so far. The best is yet to come.” Brantley Smith Is planning to shape young minds. He has received teaching job offers from Stokes and Davidson counties . “I’m happy about graduating, but I feel that school is just beginning for me because I plan to get my master's degree and my doctorate. I would like to steer more students into the math field because there are numerous job opportunities in this field and the professors here are wonderful.” Lechyana Pitt Pitt will receive her degree in accounting. She will be employed with KPMG Peat Marwick, one of the country's "Big 6" accounting firms. She will be employed as a staff accountant. She will be located in Richmond, Va. Ms. Pitt received her job offer at the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) conference in Orlando, FL., last November. Audrey Jordan Jordan is an Information Systems major and has received a job with Wachovia as a Business Analyst. She utilized the career services center, find her job. Jordan will be here in Winston Salem for three months of training before she will be told where she will be located. Venisha Binns Binns is an accounting major, but has been offered a job with Wachovia as a Business Analyst. She will be attending a three month training session in Winston Salem. m SBbir mmmm /i. mi Deloitte Touche, one of the country's "Big 6" accounting firms . She will be located in the Enchain Salem Office. Davenport located her job through the NABA convention. a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and will attend Flight School to become a pilot. “My time here at Winston-Salem State University has been fun and challenging and I am really looking forward to getting started in my career.” Douglas Gilliam Gilliam a elementary education major plans to substitute teach at Kimberly Park Elementary School until June. “I had to really practice some good time management skills here at WSSU,” said Gilliam, who has maintain a 3.8 GPA by scheduling his time around assignment and project deadlines. Khadija El El, a mass com unications graduate, with a 3.7 GPA, has expertise in editing VHS and BETA video tapes, and using non linear equipment, studio cameras, field cameras, beta cameras and helping to program shows at Winston-Salem's TV 13. She has also worked with CATV. She hopes to land a job in California in media technology. She is currently preparing a video portfolio showcasing her skills with special effects, editing and displaying her camera work. Celena Wynn Wynn, a mass comm, major is ready to use her skills in camera operation, editing, cutting PSA’s, producing PSA’s, to help land her a job. She is seeking a job in either audio visual or media technology. She has been putting together a video portfolio showcasing her radio/television work and an audio portfolio showcasing her work at WSNC-FM, 90.5. Kimberly Davenport Davenport is an Accounting/ Information Systems major. She will be working as a staff accountant with Chad David Willette Willette will receive a B.S. in mathematics and will be commissioned as Katina Bryson Bryson, an art major, is heading back home to Durham, to work at a photography studio. Her future plans include landing a job in the computer graphics department, at Disney World James Belton Belton, 22, will receive a B.S. in computer science. He plans to attend graduate school at NC A & T or North Carolina Slate University for his master’s degree. His career goals and future plans are to become a Network Programmer for a large corporation, obtain a doctorate, and start his own computer business. COMGRATULATIONS
