October 1997 The News Argus - Page 7 FEATURES Library's Staff Presents Christmas in Carolina NEWS RELEASE The annual benefit for the Ubrary is presently being planned by the C.G. O’Kelly Library staff and a cadre of friends including Friends of the Library board members and persons from the Winston-Salem community. The second edition of Christmas in Carolina an auction *dinner* extravaganza will be held Friday, November 14, 1997, 5:30-9:30 p.m. in the Thompson Student Services Center multipurpose room. Since this is the second auction with the Christmas theme, the committee is working hard to make the event more exciting and successful than the 1996 fund raiser. Funds beyond the basic library budget are required for library services because the university is rapidly changing i.e. increased student enrollment in health sciences and a thrust to offer master level courses. A diverse student population requires additional duplicate copies and more varied titles than the funds awarded by the state will allow. The library s Friends recognize that the book collection needs are increasing each year, so the first half of the auction’s proceeds will benefit the nursing and education collections. The remaining dollars will help defray the costs for programs sponsored by the WSSU Friends of the Library. The Friends have not actively requested membership donations since 1995. Local businessman Richard N. Davis and his wife Becky will host the evening. Silent and live bidding opportunities will occiu' throughout the evening. An abbreviated inventory includes a full-sized microwave oven, passes for eighteen holes of golf, floral arrangements, office furniture, African fashions, framed prints, pottery, and many autographed books. Tickets for Christmas in Carolina an auction ♦ dinner * extravaganza are $25 which includes cocktails and dinner. Several special photo opportunities will occur during the event Inquiries about the auction can be directed to Beverly Ford or Mae L.
