With an imperial tone, the
newly installed chancellor of
Winston-Salem State University,
Dr. Harold Lee Martin Sr., assured
the faculty, staff, students and
administration that "[he would]
step up to the process of change."
Oct. 19 marked another mile
stone in the history of WSSU as
Martin was officially installed as
the seventh chancellor and 11th
chief administrator of the univer
sity.
"[I'm calling] myself a student's
administrator because I value
what you do," Martin said of his
role at Winston-Salem State
University.
"I have a task to make sure that
Winston-Salem State is at sub
stance with the motto 'Enter to
Learn and Depart to Serve."
In a week filled with celebra
tion, the communities of Winston-
Salem along with other members
of the Ram family were given the
opportunity to show how much
they valued Martin.
Many have deemed the installa
tion a joyful, pride-filled occasion.
During the ceremony itself, a
procession filled with notable
names of both state and local gov
ernment were present, along with
officials from the University of
North Carolina school system.
The educators, as well as mem
bers of the Ram family and
Martin's own family and friends,
showed their support as each
group was acknowledged.
Brenda R Diggs, the chairper
son of WSSU's Board of Trustees
said, "He is the right man for the
right job at the right time."
There were also comments on
Martin's active role in the positive
progression of WSSU since he was
brought in as interim chancellor in
January of last year.
