Musiq Argus reporter asks what you want to know about artists By Janell L. Lewis ARGUS REPORTER Carlito Green, or Cee-lo, of Goodie Mob and The Dungeon Family, and Philly's Talib Johnson, also known as Musiq Soulchild, enlivened the crowd at Lawrence Joel Coliseum at the WSSU Homecoming Super Show 2002 Saturday, Oct. 5. The News Argus got a chance to ask the artists a few question. First up, Cee-lo Green: Argus: Flow do you describe your style of music and what separates from the rest? Cee-lo: I describe it as hard odd. It's an oddity, it's a rarity, but it's gen uine and valuable.. .1 insist on being an individual. Argus: From who or what did you develop your interest in music? Cee-lo: Well, I guess in a nutshell, divine interven tion and that intervention can come from more than a few influences. Argus: Why did you decide to do your own thing? Cee-lo: I was really moved, compelled to do it, and just judging from the music for those of y'all who have heard the album, you will see that its completely different musically and I produced it you know, so its more or less me being expres sive and its like an over flow of like emotion and creativity and artistic endeavors so I needed a medium to get all of that out and the Goodie Mob medium is what it is, and I wouldn't want to con gest that with my outspo kenness. Argus: What does the title of your solo CD mean? Cee-lo: Perfect Imper fections? Human nature. In your lifetime, you may not acquire any other flaw, but the ones you have are yours and they were given to you person ally; there's no coinci dence in anything; you are God's exact intension so the plight of all exis tence to me is to master oneself one day at a time and sense no human being will be able to achieve perfection, you'll die trying, basically. Argus:How are you bal ancing your family life and your music life? Cee-lo: Well they coex ist, because my family inspires my music, I don't know what I would be rappin' about all the way if I didn't really have those types of values, that type of situation that's grounding and humbling. I'm cool. I'm straight. Second up, Musiq: Argus: How would you compare/contrast this album to your last? Musiq: This album is more like a sequel to the first. In some respect, this album is more like my first. The first album was pretty much like my demo. After going thru what I went thru with the first album- recording, and touring-1 pretty much got a better per spective on how I could get the most out of my artistry, so when I went to go do the second album I was very conscious of what I might have to go through in performing the songs, singing the songs, getting my point across and stuff like that; but all- in-all I used the first album as the blueprint for the second album. Argus: What is the point or theme you are trying to get across in your music? Musiq: Basically just different perspectives of life and love, alternative ways of song writing. 1 try to be as real as I can to myself, but 1 also try to be conscious of my audience and 1 try to make songs that they can relate to and they can get into and they can identify with. Argus: Why did you drop Soulchild from your name? Musiq: The point I'm trying to make with that is Musiq Soulchild is my stage name, that's my artistic name, but it's a two-part name, and I came up with both of them. But I started to real ize that its gonna take a while to really explain both of them, so 1 figure I'll start with Musiq, it's still Musiq Soulchild, just think of it as my first and last name I'm just going by my first name, that's all. GAME, from page 1 tively slow due to the out standing defensive battle that was taking place. Brandon Free put up the only regulation score for the Rams at the end of the first quarter, when Josh McGee connected with him for a 9-yard receiving touchdown. Forty-five minutes and 43 seconds of defense took place with neither team able to put up points, until Fayetteville State's Westbrook caught an 8 yard pass in the right block of the end zone to help his team tie the game with 30 seconds left in regulation. Josh McGee took a knee signaling that Coach Blount had instructed them to take it into over time. Overtime proved to be more exciting than regula tion. The Rams got the ball first, and inability to score a touchdown led to a 43-yard field goal by Matt Hind. Fayetteville State fol lowed suit and Justin Langdon nailed a 16-yard field goal to end the first overtime. The second overtime put bodies in the end zone and Fayetteville drew first blood as Elliot London screamed across the middle on a slant pat tern that 20 yards later became a touchdown. Josh McGee scored on a 1 - yard push that put the Rams on the board to end the second overtime. In the third overtime the Rams worked their way up the field slowly. Vincent Wilkins drove the ball in the end zone from 4 yards out to put a well- needed seven, after Matt Hind's extra point, on the scoreboard. The Broncos answered right back as Te'Mon Wallace found Daryl Bright in the back of the end zone after a well executed 23 yard fade pattern. In the fourth overtime Daryl Bridgers answered quick to put the Broncos up by 6. On the two-point conversion attempt, Raymond Barksdale recorded his third inter ception and ran it back 106 yards to put the Rams a touchdown away from homecoming victory. Do or die time for the offense exposed many faults and the Rams came up fruit less in the fourth to lose 30 to 26. Things are not over for the Rams. A winning sea son is still in reach for this young team, but a lot of things need to change in order to see that happen. The less realistic goal will be for the Rams to make the championship game. Fayetteville State current ly holds the reigns in the Western division, but a few key losses could bring new hope to the Winston- Salem State.
