Joan Council, Parkland's band director, said she had no idea why they were being escorted out of the processional. Police motioned for the band to turn right onto Liberty Street fiom 4th Street about a half mile from where band members started on the parade route. After being pulled from the parade line. Parkland band members then watched as the processional contin ued without them. "It was a very dis appointing situation and it was situ ation that should hgive been handled in a better manner," Council said. Parade coordinator Albert Roseboro attributed the foul-up to miscommu- nication. "I share the frustration with "1 share the frustration with Parkland that it happened the way it did. // — Albert Roseboro, Parade Coordinator Parkland that it happened the way it did," Roseboro said. "They were a victim of circumstance in that situation." But Roseboro added that the band was escorted out of the parade line when its performance lasted longer than the allotted time given, delay ing other performers. He said parade rules and regulations were given to all participants the morn ing of the processional. However, Parkland officials said they didn't have an opportunity to review the policies before the start of the parade. Additionally, they complained that other parade partic ipants violated the rules, but were allowed to continue. Roseboro has sent a formal apolo gy to members of the Parkland High School band. Also, Parkland was invited to perform during halftime at the WSSU vs St. Augustine foot ball game at Bowman Gray Stadium. "In justice for the parade, we got a chance to mend fences," Council said, "and this was also to show the community that the relationship between the community and the school is still good."
