Homecoming Coronation was a storybook
affair for all who attended

nee upon a time in the kingdom of Winston-
I Salem State University there was a sweet
honey-dipped smiling princess named
Vlignon. One night all of Mignon's dreams came true
A'hen a fairytale
became reality as she
pulled up to the king
dom in an exquisite
horse and carriage
dressed in the finest of
gowns.
That night for the
senior mass communi
cations and Spanish
major from Burlington
was Oct.29. Mignon
Renee Turner officially
began her reign as
Miss WSSU as she was
crowned by
Chancellor Harold L.
Martin and his wife
Davida during a
"Fairy Tale
Beginnings" corona
tion held in the
Kenneth R. Williams
Auditorium. The event
began at 7 p.m.
Images of Turner
through her 21 years
were projected for
everyone to see, as
Voices of Art sang.
Her family was intro
duced, and Mr Ram,
Alan Brown, and Miss
Alumni, Geraldine
Judd. The ceremony
also gave tribute to the
outgoing queen.

Following the speech, a special reinactment of the
Cinderella story was performed by the Association of
Rhythmic Talent.
They danced to a Disney composition and ended
with the Royal ball, where the class queen debuted
and danced. Then came the arrival of the queen.
Turner. The coronation, as
in years past, featured kings
and queens from over 80
student organization, each
presenting Miss WSSU with
gifts of recognition and
appreciation. Four class
queens shared the stage for
the night including Miss
Freshman Angel Jenkins,
Miss Sophomore Holly
Price, Miss Junior Kionna
Kay and Miss Senior
Marissa Chavis. There were
also two new queens this
year. Seniors K’^ystle Myers,
Miss 1892, and senior
Quenna McDonald, Miss
Red and White, were both
contestants in the running
for Miss WSSU this spring.
This is the first time that the
runner-ups in the elections
were given titles and served
as royal attendants to the
Queen. Lorenzo Meachum
served as the narrator for
the Disney-like story.
Following coronation, a
masquerade ball was held in
the Anderson Center.
According to Turner, prepa
ration began several months
in advance.
Turner plans to attend
graduate school to study
International Development.
One of the benefits of winning Miss WSSU is riding
in a horse-dawn carriage. Chancellor Martin helps
Turner down from carriage.
