I’agc' 2 "riic Nev\s Argus Opinion Tuesday, November 4, 2008 \v\\’\v.tliene\vsargiis.com Always Watching By Grant Fulton News Editor 1 almost forgot about home coming this year, or it could be that nothing going on during the week really caught my attention or interest. Because of the lack promo tion, I did not know it was homecoming until I saw work ers putting up the decorations. I hate when students com pare our homecoming to other universities. Stucients say things such as "A&T is having this person at homecoming." Who cares who A&T has for homecoming? You are attending Winston-Salem State University. Have some school spirit and take pride in WSSU by support ing school events. SGA is doing everything in its power to make homecoming a fun- filled event with the budget that they have. If we lose money by students not supporting events then we will never have a good home coming event. WSSU can probably arrange for better entertainment but that could lead to a tuition increase, something we know would not be a popular deci sion. I am a senior, and I am focusing on graduation. Homecoming was not at the top of my priority list.My sister told me I will appreciate home coming when I graduate. 1 hope that she is telling the truth because it looks like the game will be the only thing that 1 will participate in during homecoming. McCain Plumber Qft Senator McCain, what is the one thing you would change about your campaign if you could rewind the hands of time? 200? Black Republicans in Obamamania election UWIRE - For those who are young, unestablished and sur rounded by Obamamania, it is a daunting thought just to put a McCain-Palin bumper sticker on their car. But, we must analyze peo ple's impetus for identifying with certain political groups. In some cases, it comes down to a pivotal decision; are you going to align yourself with the person /party who best repre sents your views, or are you going to align yourself with those who would be most bene ficial for the larger group of people with whom you iden tify? For example, you are black and your family makes at least $300,000 a year. You live in a white neighborhood and have been in private school all your life. You've never benefitted from social programs, you are a devout Christian who is against gay marriage and abortion and perhaps your parents even work for a company \ike BP or Halliburton. It is, undoubtedly, in your best interest to vote Republican. They best represent your moral code and way of life.So do you disregard these personal advan tages because they want to cut funding to the programs that benefit lower-income blacks? Do you disregard these per sonal advantages because the number of young, black single mothers would increase expo nentially if abortion was against the law? Do you ignore these per sonal advantages just because the money that could be used to improve our inner-city schools is instead being funneled into Iraq? There are many black Republicans who fit none of those characteristics except that they are conservative and hold conservative moral values. The economy is not as important to them as religious rights. Should they be deterred from their path because of economic values? However we align ourselves, we cannot always expect others to see from our point of view, no matter how distorted we think theirs to be. To those living in the conun drum of conservative and col ored, now is the time be proud or rethink your allegiance.
