News & Features w\\'\v.thenevvsargiis.c()m Tuesday, March 24, 2009 I'he New s Argils Paf>c 7 Comedian brings a humorous twist on good oY common sense Harvey’s book offers nothing new about relationships ?v Steohanie Douthit ^ i > , . By Stephanie Douthit Editor In Chief Comedian and entertainer, Steve Harvey, best-known for his lead role on "The Steve Harvey Show" and as an "Original King of Comedy/' brings his wit and humor into the hands of readers nationwide with his book debut. "Act Like a Lady, Think like a Man: What Men Really Think About Love, Relationships, InHmacy and Commitment," a No. 1 New York Times bestseller is dedicated to women and created as Harvey says, with the hope to "empower you [women] with a wide-open book into the minds of men." Sometimes funny and some times direct, Harvey gives women the "real deal" and the ammuni tion to figure out what makes men tick. Harvey exposed the mindset of men and provides insight on such things like how to spot a mama's boy and what if anything a woman can do about it; how men don't love like women love; how to set and keep standards; and the five questions a woman should ask a man to determine how seri ous a man is about the relation ship. Now, Harvey's audience may read this self-help book and gain important and thought-provoking information, but most of it is a humorous play on good ol' com mon sense. It's a well-known fact that women are emotional and compli cated individuals that differ greatly from men when it comes to relationships; therefore, women love differently. Setting standards? When a woman has requirements that she needs in a relationship to make it work for her, the partnership is successful. Duh! What's new about that? Women have been flocking to bookstores hoping Steve Harvey will give the answers to all the relationship cjuestions women tend to ask. But this read provides mini mal help with lots of encourage ment to get into a serious debate. I must agree with "Logical Kay,' a reader who posted a review on Amazon.com. "Most of the things in this book, women should be aware of by their late 20s. The advice isn't something you couldn't get from a pastor or a well-meaning male friend." So why do ladies continue to use books such as "Act Like a Lady..." to generalize the attitudes and emotions of every man? This book should be titled, "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Grown up." It's only common sense. Logical Kay says it best: "All in all, this book contains advice most mature individuals should know." But if you enjoy an entertaining read and you like to debate and over analyze things, "Act Like a Lady..." should be on your book shelf. Steve Harvey is currently the host of the nationally syndicated radio program "Steve Harvey Morning Show," which has more than seven million listeners [mostly women]. Go figure!
