Their Impact in sports can be traced back to the earliest points in the history of the re spected sport. The women of Winston- Salem State have been phenomenal this season in the sports of track and field, softball basketball and tennis. During Women’s History Month The News Argus recogniz es the accomplishments for the 2010-2011 season. The turnaround made by the Lady Rams softball team can be only rivaled by the one made by Rams football team. The Lady Rams softball team are 7-9 (3-0). The Lady Rams have' not lost a conference game and have won more games at this point in the season this year than at this point in the previous two seasons. The instant success of the Women’s track and field program can be attributed to the hard work and very rigorous training that they participate in The woman behind the success is head track and field coach Inez Turner. In her first year, she has led the women’s track and field team to its first CIAA champi onship in team history. The Lady Rams Tennis " team has been on an outstand ing winning streak of its own and is looking to charge right into the postseason. Following their season opener toss to UNC- Charlotte 7-0, they have won every match since then; their record Is 7-1. We hope of winning the CIAA and dethroning the Shaw Lady Bears who won the title last season J The Lady Rams basketball finished its first season in Its return to the CIAA with a 17-11 record, their best since the 2001 2002 season when they posted a 17-13 record. This season was exceptional for the Lady Rams basketball team because during the previous four seasons the team only amassed 19 total wins. These Lady Rams had one of the biggest win total turnarounds in school history by winning 15 more games than last season when they posted a 2-28 record. r ( TEXT *Y jORDAN HOLLOWAY II.IUSTRATION BY BRANDON COLEY kCOACH S BAU Awarded to Kayla Carter Jordan Holloway Sports Editor Raleigh native Kayla Carter is the Game Ball recipient because of her great leadership on and off of the tennis court. "I am surprised that he selected me," Carter said Her Coach John Martin said that he relies on Carter for numerous things and she always communicates with him to let him know about the women's team. Carter is a sophomore psychology inajor. "I am going to be on top of my game/' Carter said. "Coach [Martin] sees something in me and I'm going to step it up."
