Fashion show hosted by school’s merchandising class Domestic violence was the topic of the ISSUES FOR WOMEN program to be held in Marks Hall auditorium at Chowan College Tuesday (March 26). Reese Trimmer of the North Carolina Justice Academy, Salemburg, spoke at two sessions. This program, formerly THh- PROFESSIONAL — A WOMAN, is an annual event jointly sponsored by Chowan’s Department of Business, the Hertford County Council on the Status of Women, and the Agricultural Extension Service of Hertford County. The evening session included a panel representing mental health, legal and law enforcement professions. Members in cluded Rosemary Royce, R.N. and Family Nurse Practitioner, who heads the medical support staff at the Roanoke-Chowan Human Services Center. Her topic is “Mental Health Alternatives and Psychological Aspects of Abuse.” Attorney Rosiland Grant of Ahoskie spoke on “Legal Aspects of Abuse.” The topic of Connie Piland of Winton, chair person of SAFE (Services for Abused Families with Emergencies) was “Look Sharp” was the theme of a fashion show presented by the Chowan College Visual Merchandising Qass in Turner Auditorium in McDowell (Columns during the fall semester last year. We’re hearing a lot about it lately. The Department of Business was pleased to help sponsor this I^UES FOR WOMEN program as a public service. She continued, “This is a problem that needs to be dealt with. It will not go away on its own. The first step is to increase the awareness of the public concerning domestic violence. The program was very informative and helpful and we would hke to thank all who participated and attended. The 1985 baseball team had several proud accomplishments including a 20-game win season.
