Contemporary, jazz, classical and show tunes show off the group's talents and keep the audience's feet tapping. Eubank named acting head of division of art at Chowan MURFREESBORO -- Douglas E. Eubank has been named acting head of the division of art at Chowan College effective at the conclusion of the 1991- 92 academic year. He succeeds David Parker who served as head of the division of art in the deparunent of fine arts since 1979. "We appreciate the contributions that Doug Eubank has made and continues to make to the college and to the art program," said Dr. B. Franklin Lowe, vice president for academic affairs, in making the appointment. "I am confident that he will jwovide competent and effective service as acting head of the division of art." Eubank received the B.A. and M.H.E. degrees from Morehead State University in Kentucky. Originally from Lexing ton, Kentucky and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, he came to Chowan in 1971 and taught painting and printmaking. Since then he has become well-known as a potter, teaching ceramics in the division of art. Eubank's courses are some of the most popular in the division. He had previously served as head of the division until 1979 when he left Chowan to teach at other colleges in the sure, returning to Chowan in 1983. During the academic year 1975-76 he was a participant in the well-known North Carolina Visiting Artists Pro gram. He served the campus community of Lenoir Community in Kinston, N.C. During the academic year of 1982-83, he taught production pottery at Mont gomery Community College in Troy, N.C. Eubank was elected to the State Advisory Commission of the American Arts Association and participated in the Art Train in Washington, N.C., demonstrating the art of pottery-making to thousands of visitors, he completed additional study at East State Tennessee University and at Penland School of Crafts, where he studied ceramics. He and his wife, Molly, reside in Como and have two children, Lance, and Tadd. Former art division head David Parker and his wife, Susie, moved to his wife's homeland, Australia, in June. "David Parker has provided out standing service to the college," said Dr. B. Franklin Lowe, vice president for academic affairs. "As a teacher in the division of art, he has won the respect and admiration of faculty, staff and students. As a practicing artist, he is well-known and respected throughout the region. He has administrated the division of art in a highly capable manner. We will miss him." Parker departed from Chowan College at the conclusion of the spring semester this year and remarks he is planning "to paint the beautiful scenery that is Australia." A well-known painter, Parker's paintings of rural pastoral scenes have distinguished him throughout North Carolina. His rendition of the Columns building hangs in the lobby of the McDowell Columns Building. Parker received the associate degree from Campbell University; the bachek>r's degree and master's degree in fine arts from East Carolina University. He completed additional studies at Melbourne University, and the National Gallery Art School. He influenced many young painters during his tenure at Chowan and motivated student artists for many years to pursue art degrees and enter the world of an. The division of art has graduates working in commercial art in Hollywood, CA, as an art insuoictor at Louisburg College; as staff artists with the Virginia Pilot newspaper in Nor folk, VA; and staff artists in the Research Triangle of N.C. and with the N.C.
