Goober Bowl
Braves and Lees-McRae
To Clash in Benefit Game
BY PHIL ROYCE
Chowan College and Lees-
McRae will clash in the first
Goober Bowl game here in
Chowan’s stadium Saturday,
October 11 at 2 p.m.
The Coastal Conference football
game is being sponsored by the
Hertford County Shriners with
proceeds to benefit crippled and
burned children hospit^.
Joe Dickerson, Hertford
County Shriners’ vice-president,
said parades at 11 a.m. in
Ahoskie and 1 p.m. in Mur
freesboro will precede the game.
“All Shrine units in full color
from Sudan Temple will par
ticipate,” he said. “This includes
the clowns, which are classed
among the finest of any temple.”
The parade will be like none
Ahos^e or Murfreesboro has
ever seen,“Dickerson noted.
He said the Lees-McRae
game “is alwsys a close ex
citing game. We’ll be seeing
some outstanding college
players. It’s a perfect choice for
the first Goober Bowl.” The
half-time show will be on the
Bicentennial theme.
“We’re hoping for the biggest
crowd ever in Chowan’s stadium.
Whether a person is a Shriner or
a football fan or not, we’re
looking for his support in this
endeavor, which is for such a
worthy cause,” Dickerson
remarked.
In addition to selling tickets to
the game, Dickerson said
Shriners in Hertford, Gates,
Bertie, and Northampton
counties are selling ads for the
football program, which will be
distributed free at the game.
“Sale of ads will also benefit the
hospitals,” he stated.
Shriners supporting the Goober
Bowl include those from
Wilmington, Fayetteville, Kin
ston, New Bern, Durham,
Burlington, Elizabeth City,
Manteo, Koanoke Rapids,
Williamston, Ahoskie, and
Murfreesboro and other eastern
North Carolina communities. The
Sudan Temple leadership will be
present for the game.
Dickerson thanked Chowan, its
president. Dr. Bruce E.
Whitaker, and head football
coach, Jim Garrison, for their
support.
■‘We're looking for the whole
area to be at the Goober Bowl to
enjoy themselves and help
crippled and burned children,
"Dickerson said.

Reserve Your Bus Seat Now !!!
By STEVE C. NELSON
Director of Student Activities
It has been suggested that a Bus be provided for individuals desiring to attend the
Chov^an Braves-Ferrum College football game October 4,1975. After conferring vy^ith
Mr. Sutton and Dean Lewis, it vfas decided to determine if there are enough
interested individuals to fill the activity bus. This would require 35 individuals at an
approximate cost of $6.00 per person.
It has been proposed to accept reservation on a first come first serve basis until 1
P. M. Wednesday, October 1. If there are not enough reservations at that time, the bus
will not be scheduled. If enough reservations have been received, the bus will be
scheduled and payment will be expected by 1:00 P. M. Friday, October 3.
If there is sufficient interest to schedule the bus, it will depart from in front of the
gymnasium at 7:00 A. M. October 4 and return immediately following the game.
Coach Garrison has informed me that the cost of tickets for the game will be
approximately $3.00 each. This would make the cost of the trip approximately $9.00
plus meals.
Reservation for Bus Seat: Detach and Return to Mr. Nelson or Dean Lewis’s Secretary
I plan to attend the Chowan Braves-Ferrum College Football Game and would like
to reserve seat (s) on the activity bus. Reservations must be returned by Wednes
day, October 1. Payment must be made by Friday, October 3.

Men’s intramurals have gotten un
derway with Carolina Flag Football.
Games are being played each afternoon
Monday through Thursday at 3:45 and
4:45 on the intramural fields beside of
the baseball field. Play has been
somewhat ragged thus far while the
men learn the new style of play, but the
competition has been keen.
The defending champions, 3rd
Parker Derelicts, appear to have a very
strong team again this year. They will
have to overcome tough opposition
from the eight other Parker teams in
order to win the American League. The
teams in the National Leaeue appear to
be very balanced. The National League
has no clear favorite, but the West
teams appear to be the better teams.
Mixon looked very impressive in
practice games, but forfeited their first
season game. The teams from East
appear somewhat weaker than the
teams from West, but as the season
progresses this could change.
Men’s intramurals will sponsor a co
ed doubles tennis tourn
ament beginning Monday October
6, 1975. Sign-up will be conducted now
through Friday October 3rd in Green
Hall or by contacting Mr. Nelson (ext.
282). Teams must consist of one female
and one male. Any student, faculty or
staff member of Chowan College is
eligible to play. Find a partner and
sign-up today. Emphasis will be upon
the fun and enjoyment of participating.
Spectators are encouraged and
welcomed at all intramural events.
Support your favorite players.
