The N.G,. Essay
Pa^e 2
NL,. hSSAY AIMS FOI?
The N.C. Essay is the title selected by students for a school
newspaperT" Although the School of the Arts is not a large school, a student
publication can be essential in correlating the activities of the four depart
ments j music, dance, drama, and academics.
In addition to correlating these departments, the newspaper will endeavor
to express students' opinions through letters to the editor. Students may also submit
poetry and creative writing for publication. All material to be printed must be
submitted on
wednes"' ’ .i.- .. .. , ■
sday before publication on the following Monday. '
Tentative plans are for the newspaper to be published weekly. A high
journalistic standard is a main objective of the N.C. Essay.
With
support and interest it is hoped that the newspaper will become an
integral part of the school, serving both students and faculty. Anyone interested
in working on the paper should contact 9ybll Ilthsk^y—or.^ony Senter irame-dtHlreJ^.
A NEW COUNCIL AND NEW IDEAS
Georgiana Holmes has resigned
as Student Organization representative.
An election will be held tonight at
9:30p.m. in the lobby of the girls'
dorm. All female dancers, are eligible
for the position and will be the only
ones voting.
^ boy and a girl from each
department were elected last year as
student government representatives.
The day students are allowed>one
representative who has not as yet
been elected.
Jimmy Greenwood is serving as
president; Randy Ellis, vice-president;
Susan Corbett, secretary-treasurer.
Mr. Sam Wade, counselor, represents
the faculty.
The Hall Board, a division
of the student government, is
composed of Mr. Wade, Jimmy Greenwood,
and Randy Ellis in the boys' dorm; and
Miss Stumph, Susan Corbett, and a
dance student to be elected in the
girls' dorm. Meeting weekly, the Hall
Board handles cases invloving minor
infractions of rules. The board also
refers major infractions to the
Judicial Board with or without
recommendations. There are three equal
votes in the board so the students
are able to rule. If a member abstains
another dormitory official is asked
to take his vote. The Hall Board tries
to interpret the rules for the indiv
idual as much as possible.
Comraittees Appointed
A Food Cotranittee and a Film
Committee have been set up by the
student organization. Aiming to improve
the quality and variety of the cafe
teria food, the Food Committee has
prepared and delivered an extensive
report to the cafeteria staff. Although
all of the recommendations are not
expected to be put into effect, the
cafeteria has already adopted some
of the suggestions.
The Film Committee is in
charge of selecting the films which are
to be shown each month. In order to have
better fi^ms, the committee decided to
have only one movie a month instead of
one a week as was the case last year.
The committee will meet today to select
the films. Hopefully there will be c
movie for the last Saturday night in
October. This committee is composed of
Susan Moore, Robbie Caplan, Keith Gates,
and Mike Weisman.

his friends who are at the end of the
