Essay is the title selected by students for a school newspaperT" Although the School of the Arts is not a large school, a student publication can be essential in correlating the activities of the four depart ments j music, dance, drama, and academics. In addition to correlating these departments, the newspaper will endeavor to express students' opinions through letters to the editor. Students may also submit poetry and creative writing for publication. All material to be printed must be submitted on wednes"' ’ .i.- .. .. , ■ sday before publication on the following Monday. ' Tentative plans are for the newspaper to be published weekly. A high journalistic standard is a main objective of the N.C. Essay. With support and interest it is hoped that the newspaper will become an integral part of the school, serving both students and faculty. A NEW COUNCIL AND NEW IDEAS Georgiana Holmes has resigned as Student Organization representative. An election will be held tonight at 9:30p.m. in the lobby of the girls' dorm. All female dancers, are eligible for the position and will be the only ones voting. ^ boy and a girl from each department were elected last year as student government representatives. The day students are allowed>one representative who has not as yet been elected. Jimmy Greenwood is serving as president; Randy Ellis, vice-president; Susan Corbett, secretary-treasurer. Mr. Sam Wade, counselor, represents the faculty. The Hall Board, a division of the student government, is composed of Mr. Wade, Jimmy Greenwood, and Randy Ellis in the boys' dorm; and Miss Stumph, Susan Corbett, and a dance student to be elected in the girls' dorm. Meeting weekly, the Hall Board handles cases invloving minor infractions of rules. The board also refers major infractions to the Judicial Board with or without recommendations. There are three equal votes in the board so the students are able to rule. If a member abstains another dormitory official is asked to take his vote. The Hall Board tries to interpret the rules for the indiv idual as much as possible. Comraittees Appointed A Food Cotranittee and a Film Committee have been set up by the student organization. Aiming to improve the quality and variety of the cafe teria food, the Food Committee has prepared and delivered an extensive report to the cafeteria staff. Although all of the recommendations are not expected to be put into effect,the cafeteria has already adopted some of the suggestions. The Film Committee is in charge of selecting the films which are to be shown each month. In order to have better fi^ms, the committee decided to have only one movie a month instead of one a week as was the case last year. The committee will meet today to select the films. Hopefully there will be c movie for the last Saturday night in October. This committee is composed of Susan Moore, Robbie Caplan, Keith Gates, and Mike Weisman. The time is 7:00p.m. Suddenly from the next room comes the invisible voice, blaring out with the half hour news. In the background the moans and tones of Bob Dylan are faintly audible. Brand Y now makes his entrance by conversing with his friends who are at the end of the hall. Meanwhile, back at the ranch. Brand X has inserted cotton in his ears and presses his hands on his temples in order to gather the peace and serenity necessary for studv.
