The New Arts Brass Ensemble rehearsing for
today's performance in Lenoir, N.C.
BRASS ENSEMBLE
GOES TO LENOIR
The New Arts Brass Ensemble, under the
direction of Fredrick Bergstone, and manage
ment of Lynn Bernhardt, Jr. and Michael Col-
ina, performed today at 8:30 a.m. at Lenoir
High School, Lenoir, North Carolina.
Before an audience of more than 800
people, the ensemble performed ’’Intrada"
by Melchoir Frank, one movement of the
"Symphony for Brass Choir" by Victor Ewald,
one movement of "Brass Quintet" by Michael
Colina, "Quintet No. 1 for Brass" by Lynn
Bernhardt, and "Morgen musik" by Paul Hin
demith. As an encore, the ensemble played
an arrangement of "Downtown" by Lynn Bern
hardt.
Performing in the New Arts Brass En
semble are Dan Jone^, Robert Grier, and
Ruseol Plyler, trumpets; Dan Ashe, James
Bouldin, horns; Steve Sherril, trombone;
aod Alan Bowman, tuba.
STUDENTS TAKE
SAT TOMORROW
High school students will take the
College Board Entrance Examinations at
Reynolds High School tomorrow at 8 a.m.
John Williams will drive the bus which
is scheduled to leave NCSA at 7:30 a.m.
Breakfast will be served from 7 to
7:30 a.m. for these students only and Mr.
Kimzey urges the students to take break
fast before going to the exams.
HANNA TO PERFORM WEDNESDAY
Cindy Hanna, piano student of Miss
Fuschi, will present a student recital
on Wednesday, December 7, at 11 a.m.
Tonight at 8:15 p.m. in the school
auditorium, the NCSA Orchestra will present
its first concert for the year. The program
is a memorial concert for Dr. Vittorio
Giannini as announced by Dr. Saul Caston,
conductor and teacher of trumpet at the
School of the Arts. Dr. Caston formerly
conducted the Denver Symphony Orchestra.
Included in the program is the
" Overture to ' Marriage ot Figaro'" by
Mozart; " Piano Concerto in D Minor "
by Bach with James Butt of South Mills,N.C.,
as soloist. James is A student of Mr. Howard
Aibel. Also Bach's "Come Sweet'Death"'will
be performed in memory of Dr. Giannini.
Concluding the program will be Mozart's
"Symphony No. 35 (haffner)
Students performing in the orchestra
are Ida Bieler, Concert Mistress, Lucy
Chapman, Wayne Roden, Virginia Price, Maura
Giannini, Robert Vodnoy, Nathaniel Evans,

'THE NUTCRACKER
FOR

Parents, faculty members, and students
have been invited to attend the dress
rehearsal of "The Nutcracker" on December 9.
The performance will be given at Reynolds
Auditorium at 8:00 p.m. Other performances
scheduled for December 10 and 11 have been
sold out.
Dancers Perform Excerpts
Tuesday, November 29, several divertiss-
ments from" The Nutcracker " were presented
to the Arts Council at a luncheon at the
Robert E. Lee Hotel.
The dances presented were " The Spanish
Dance ", " The Arabian Dance " , and "The
Russian Dance "
Musicians Also Perform
Also on the program were music
students Rob Harvey and Pat Byers. Rob, who
plays the clarinet was accompanied by Pat
Byers. The two played the first movement
of Mozart's " Clarinet Concerto in A Major".
Another program for the dancers
is scheduled for December 6 at a local
country club.
The movie , " Arsenic and Old Lace "
will be shown Saturday night in the
auditorium at 8:00 p.m.
