VODNOY 'TO CONDUCT
BACH MAGNIFICAT
Bob Vodnoy will conduct a per
formance of the Bach ''Magnificat" in
thfe school auditorium on April 5th.
Participating in the performance will
be the chorus and the orchestra of
the school. Sandra Plexico, Ella
Cutts, Bei“nard Thacker, and Johnny
Williams will appear as soloists.
The vocalists are students of Norman
Farrow and Rose Bampton. Julian
Miller will play the harpsichord.
Bob is now a student of Dr. Saul
Caston, conductor of the orchestra.
Before coming to NCSA, Bob was a stu
dent at the Interlochen Arts Academy,
where he studied under Dr. Thor John
son. There he conducted several works
with chamber orchestra.
The Magnificat is a stunning ex
ample of Bach's religious fervor, as
well as his mastery of using instru
mental techniques in vocal writing.
The twelve carefully balanced move
ments of the score, explore a huge
number of orchestral and choral tech
niques, ranging from arias for sopra
no, oboe and continuo tb a large
scale fugue for full chorus and or
chestra .
The Magnificat has already been
performed twice in the last two weeks,
under the direction of Phillipe Buhr
ler. Several weeks ago it was done
at Ardmore Methodist Church with
full chorus. li^st Sunday it was done
at the YWCA for a Baptist Congregation
with the Camarata singers and orches
tra. It was well received by both
congregations.
