Commencing with the works of the great Bel Canto composers, Bellini and Donizetti, we were given a pil grimage through the noble composers of the old and new worlds: the lieder of Wolf and Strauss, tha airs of Poulenc, and the songs of Warren, Bone-Fenton, and Giannini. Four mod ern Israeli folk songs enlarged the variety of the program. The great Italian composer Puccini was repre sented with a moving perfarmance of Mimi’s ”Addio” from "La Boheme”, but the finale of the evening came with the warmly executed ”Go ’way from my window" by Niles, completing the cycle of a well balanced program. Adding to the performance was the harmony between Mrs. Conant and her competent accompanist: Miss Rebecca Barrow, a graduate of Julliard and a graduate piano stu dent of Miss Olegna Fuschi. Mrs. Conant hopes to attend the Siena summer session in Italy in order to continue her studies with Miss Bampton through the sum mer and then to travel to New York next year for futher study with Miss Bampton. In the case Mrs. Conant does not attend the Siena session she will under the Mary Costa Scholarship, attend and perform at the Brevard Music Camp in Brevard, North Caro lina . EDIT OR IA L We suppose many student and faculty members are wondering exactly what the is. The ”M7” is a group Ojff seven male students who are dedicated to the idea of constructing a stable and active student government. Called before hall board once them selves, they saw this ineffectual group (or a phase of it) in operation. The faults of our weak and inactive student government lie not in the members; for if given a specific time and place to meet they could carry out what was begun in good faith. Instead they are elected and left to fend for themselves. They, being students, are busy and need to have a set time set up, as a class time, in which to perform the duties assigned to them. It is not a maffia or organazation formed to cause trouble. ”M7” is merely a sincere group of students vho hope, with all good'*in tensions, to let NCSA have the kind of student-governing system it needs.
