AMOUR
hy BERNARD DAVIS
Is it wrong to Love?
This I ask myself time and again —
My heart answers No!!
Yet I doubt my answers and my questions
So I am divided, — Not in Love, and not
without Love.
I do Love! — Yes, I do — for my eyes fall
upon the one I Love. Though my eyes go
unnoticed, I still Love, but I doubt the
idea of Love itself.
Stored within the depths of me passed
all imagination there is giant word of
Love. Sparks fly broad at warm moments,
Yet my world of Love is untouched.
Never in all my years of division —
In all my searching has anyone offered
to share my Love. I have given my
promises — It will not desert! — It will last!
No Greek gods have mercy upon me
nor does fate allow me love, but for
a moment. Had I loved in the time
of Venus I would be burned by Appolo's
wrath for my doubts and be forced
to live without Love immortal.
Love — I doubt, I dare, I need, I want.
Love — I hurt, I beg, I pray
Love — I'll care! — I'll give!
Let my sparks be fire that my world
might burn. Else let me be cast to
heaven as a world of Love — To be
discovered only with time.
