-4, No. 8 North Carolina School of the Arts 24. 1969 REVIEW BOARD ALTERED This year the Review Board will operate under an altered structure from the past years af'NCSA. When a , student is called before the Board for discipline, he will appear be fore one of three boards, depending on whether he is from the lower, middle, or college division. Each Board consists of a Student Govern ment member and Review Board member elected from each residence, plus the Faculty Representative and House Parent. So the Board will consist of more students than faculty, and the students will be the same age as the students called before them. Whoever refers the student to the Review Board - student, faculty, staff, or administrative person - must be present at the meet ing. The student will be notified one week in advance of the meeting of the Board which he is expected to attend. The Board will meet when it has cases to hear, and so far this year there have been no Board meet ings. Many students are unaware of the fact that they can appeal to the Board if an automatic penalty is imposed in a minor infraction. The staff member imposing the penalty should be in formed by the student at the time of the infraction that he intends to appeal. The penalty will be sus pended until the Review Board has made a final decision. Appeals to the Review Board may be made either by personal appearance before the Board or in written form. Cita tion to the Board must be answered by personal appearance. Only the Judicial Board has the authority to suspend or expel a stu dent. However, the Review Board may refer a student to the Judicial Board if they feel the student's offenses are that serious. STUDENT GOVT MINUTES SGA Planning Dance 19 November, 1969—Today's meet ing was opened with two announcements. There will be an All School Council Meeting Sunday afternoon, the 7th of December. This council consists of faculty, staff, administration, trus tees, and SGA. All SGA members are urged to attend. Also, a Christmas dance is being planned by the Middle Division. Mary Gaebler is to inquire about the plans for the dance (sched- DISCUSS YOUTH FEDERATION SIfjGERSNEETW.S.S.U. CHORUS • 5n Saturday, November 15, the Camerata Chamber Singers here at NCSA were host to an informal meeting with the chorus from Winston-Salem State University. The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the possibil ity of starting a youth federation within the American Choral Directors' Association. The objectives are to provide a choral organization exist ing only for young people in th,e United States that would not be school-sponsored. A special kind of spirit exists in the non-school spon sored choirs because of the freedom and voice that the members have in choosing and performing the music. Another important objective of this type of organization is to co-ordi nate choral techniques and repertoire throughout our country and in connec tion with a similar organization in Europe. uled for 6 December) and suggested that it be an all-school event. We had a report from the Consti tution Committee. Their main concerns at this point are that the committee presently consists of three students and Mr. Hyatt. Any interested stu dent is urged to submit any questions comments, or suggestions concerning the constitution to Mr. Hyatt's office. Several students have ex pressed impatience at the slowness of the committee in establishing any thing concrete. We would just like to remind all concerned that the es tablishment of a constitution is a very involved and time-consuming ef fort. Steady work is being done upon it. The Financial Aid office is re organizing its policy. It has plans for two new committees; each to con sist of an equal number of student, faculty, and administrative repre sentatives. One committee will meet monthly to establish financial aid policy. The second, a subcommittee of the first, will handle business as it arises between the meetings of the major, policy-making committee. We would also like to call to the attention of the students the student-administration forum, to be held each Wednesday immediately fol lowing convocation. Celia Sparger Secretary SGA Accreditation In Progress an analysis by Sam J. Barcelona The November 5th convocation, that was led by Dr. Gordon Sweet of the Commission on Colleges and Schools of the Souther Association, seems to have been quite successful. Accord ing to Dr. William Baskin of the aca demic department. Dr. Sweet spoke in terms of When instead of I^. Dr. Baskin told me that this is where NCSA stands at this moment. Status report forms for application for ac creditation have been sent from Atlanta, Georgia, and at this time are being worked on day and night by the faculty to reach a November 24th, 1969, deadline (the forms themselves are about 50-60 pages in length). These forms are set up in various di visions, including faculty, financial aid, infirmary, food service, etc., all of which must account for expen ditures. personel, and procejiure. The accreditation program is simply an evaluation of the workings of a school. If NCSA presents the accredita tion board with evidence that we have adequate facilities for fulfilling our stated purpose, and the status reports are accepted, there is a strong possibility that NCSA will move into phase two of the accredita tion process. This phase involves a visit of the accreditation team which may arrive here as early as this spring. Their visit will be slated for approximately a week and their purpose will be to observe the school in progress. It should be emphasized as well as maintained that this is where the students themselves will become directly involved with the ac creditation program. Nutcracker Tour Three performances of the Nut cracker Ballet will be given at the Fage Auditorium at Duke University at 8:15 p.m. on Dec. 16, and at 4:00p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Dec.17. A matinee and an evening perform ance will be given Dec. 19 at the War Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh at 3:30 and 8:30 p.m. In charge of Raleigh tick- st sales is Jerry Pierce, N.C.
