2 New Ballets Scheduled

Looking Ahead
Miss Winston-Salem, Amelita Fac-
chiano, will represent Winston-Salem
in the 1970 Miss North Carolina Pa
geant to be held in Raleigh, North
Carolina at the Memorial Auditorium,
July eighth through the twelfth.
There are approximately 100 girls
In this competition. Each day of the
competition the girls will compete for
a different honor such as the talent
award, the bathing suit and evening
gown competition, etc.
The girls will also attend a num
ber of parties to meet officials and
judges of the eompetition and will
constantly be under observation for
poise, personality, and all the things
th^t will make one of them the bpst
representative from the State of North
Carolina to go on to the Miss America
Pageant in September.
On the final day of the Miss North
Carolina Pageant alI 100 girls will
appear on stage in their evening gowns
Ten semi-finalist are then announced
and that night repeat their talent as
they will have done all week. Five
finalist are chosen and then asked
questions; then the judges make their
decisions on Miss North Carolina 1970.
Miss Facchiano must be able to
make appearances throughout the Wins
ton-Salem area and be ready to perform
at any time from now until the Miss
North Carolina Competition in July.
With Miss Facchiano’s poise, ta
lent and personality, her chances of
going all the way are excellent!

Convocation:
BACH vs SGA
The Camerata Singers, under the
direction of Philippe Buhler, will
perforin Bach’s Motet No. 6, Lobet
den Herm, in convocation this Wed
nesday at 1:30 p.m. in the auditor
ium. The twenty-member group from
NCSA will be touring Austria, Italy,
France, Switzerland, and Germany
this summer in connection with the
Siena Summer Session.
The second part of the convo
cation will be devoted to a discus
sion of the constitution for the
School of the Arts. The Proposed
Constitution will has been developed
primarily this year by the Consti
tution Committee and the Student
Government Assocation. The convo
cation is being held to point out
certain things of interest and to
clarify some confusing points. How
ever, there will be no discussion-
answer period at this meeting.
Copies of the Constitution will
be given to the students and a later
forum will be held for the students
to raise any questions and for the
election of the constitution. If
the constitution is held in effect,
next yeai’s officers will be elected
under the new constitution later
this spring.
Two new ballets will be presented
by the School of Dance at the North
Carolina School of the Arts on the
week-end of April 24 and 25th. Per
formances, which will include five
other ballets from the School of
Dance’s repertory, will be given at
8:15 p.m. Friday, 2:00 p.m. and 8:15
p.m. Saturday in the Drama Theater
at the School of the Arts. Each
program will be different. Reserva
tions should be made, and the box
office will be open Monday, April
20, through Saturday, April 25, from
2 to 8 p.m. (Admission is $2.00 for
adults and $1.00 for students through
college.)
The two new ballets are Pour
Les Oiseaux and Closed Boor,
Pour Les Oiseaux, choreographed
by Job Sanders of the dance faculty,
was presented to an invited audience
at Reynolda House here on Friday
evening, April 10, when Mrs- Nancy
Reynolds presented her complete
collection of the porcelain Dorothy
Doughty birds to Reynolda House. The
ballet was commissioned by the Royal
Worcester Porcelain Company of New
York.
Reynolda House, which is open
to the public, is the former home of
the late Richard J. Reynolds, founder
of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. It
houses fine collections of early
American art and antiques. Mrs.
Nancy Reynolds is the daughter of the
tobacco manufacturer.
Music for the ballet is Puolenc’s
Concerto for Tuo Pianos with Orchestra.
Closed Door was choreographed
by Valerie Bettis, former leading
soloist and now choreographer and
teacher for the Dancers Studio, Inc.
and the Balerie Bettis Dance Studio
in New York. She has been at the
School of the Arts for the past two
weeks choreographing the ballet, which
is based on themes and characters
from Jean Paul Sartre’s play^ Exit.
Music is Alban Berg’s Five Pieces
for String Quartet.

PRESIDENT'S HOUSE
The North Carolina School of the Arts
Foundation recently bought the home of the
late Mrs. Fred Bahnson for use as the home
of the school's president. The house is
located at 28 Cascade Ave.^ just a few
blocks from the school.
ACCREDITATION
The accreditation team team from
the Southern Association of Colleges
and Universities held their first
meeting this week with the Deans and
other administration Sunday, Apri^ 19.
The team will be evaluating virtually
every aspect of the school until their
departure here on Wednesday.
