PREAMBLE
With a desire for constructive and spontaneous
activity in representing the students and their better
interest within the laws of the state, and the govern
ment, and with respect to the necessary regulations
required by an institution of the nature of the North
Carolina School of the Arts; we the students of N.C.S.A.
submit this constitution to all those affected by its
existence to be accepted and supported, and thusly de
clare the Constitution of the Students of the North
Carolina School of the Arts the official declaration
and procedure of our self-government, and additionally
declare the Student Council Association of N.C.S.A. as
the official agency to enforce and represent this con
stitution.
STUDENT COUNCIL GRANT OF POWER
The administration and faculty of the North Car
olina School of the Arts, having confidence in the
ability of the students to govern themselves, do here
by grant to them the power to regulate their campus
life in all matters as herein specified.
When questions of jurisdiction arise, the case in
point shall be referred to The All School Advisory
Council.
ENUMERATION OF STUDENT POWERS
(1) Right to petition, through proper procedure,
the administration, faculty. Board of Trust
ees, and Student Council Association.
(2) Right to investigation and suggested resolu
tion of Student problems.
(3) Right to organize a Student Council Associa
tion.
(4) Right to promotion of the best interest and
welfare of all students.
(5) Right to promotion of the best interest and
welfare of the School.
(6) Right to promotion of individual or depart
mental artistic integrity.
(a) Encouragement of all private or school pro
jects offering experience valuable to stu
dents and our institution.
(b) Encouragement of active and enthusiastic
involvement necessary for each student's
success in his major area.
(7) Promotion of academic integrity as well as
artistic integrity in realizing the purposes
of the North Carolina School of the Arts.
(8) Discouragement of social activities that may
in some way, either physically or emotionally,
endanger the health, property, or security of
any person associated with this institution.
(9) Support and promotion of the Student Council
Association representatives.
(10) Right to review President's decision to revoke
students Right and/or Power.
(11) Right to counsel and legal advice.
DEFINITION OF RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Students, Faculty, and Administration
(a) Honor in and respect for academic work.
(b) Supervision of student projects and extra- cur-
riculars.
(c) Orientation of new students.
(d) Convocation and assemblies involving areas of stu
dent interest.
(e) Serious disciplinary matters.
(f) Student participation in campus and community
affairs.
(g) Health and safety of students.

(a) Management of all college grounds, buildings, and
property.
(b) Selling or vending of any commercial products on
campus.

(a) Recommendation of regulations for social and dorm
itory life.
(b) Recommendations to Board of Trustees on any matters
of general importance to the School community.
(c) Review of withdrawal or modification of any part
of the power granted to students.
CONSTITUTION OF STUDENT COUNCIL OF THE NORTH CAROLINA
SCHOOL OF THE ARTS
Article I
Name
The organization shall be called the Student Council
Association of the North Carolina School of the Arts,
(S.C.A.).
Article II
Purpose
To uphold all rights and powers granted to students,
and always seek the best solutions concerning problems
involving students and the institution as dictated by
this constitution and the majority opinion of those rep
resentatives elected by and for the student body.
Article III
Members
The Student Council Association shall consist of a
President, Vice President, Secretary, N.C. Essay Editor,
and Judicial Board Chairman elected by the student body
to one year terms in the spring of each year, and two
representatives, one male and one female, and two alter
nates for each division, one male and one female, one
elected by each division during the first week of each
fall semester, and two representatives from each depart
ment elected in the same manner as division represent
atives, and two faculty representatives, one elected by
5.C.A. each fall, the other the Dean of Students, or
appointed by the Dean.
Article IV
Meetings
Meetings of the S.C.A. will be held at least bi- i
