Methodist College welcomes Mr. Joseph F. Doll, Jr. as the new director of the Charles M. Reeves School of Business Mr. Doll, who holds an M.B.A. &om American University, succeeds Dr. Mike Marr, who will return to full-time teaching as a professor of business administration. Mr. Doll comes to Methodist from Washington, D.C., where he was an entrepren eur and business executive, with more than 20 years experience in health care man agement and marketing. Mr. Doll founded two health care firms in Maryland, which operated skilled nursing facilities for the elderly. Dr. Erik Bitterbaum, vice president for academic affairs at Methodist, said Mr. Doll's responsibilities will include serving as a liaison between the college and the local business community, assisting in setting up internships for business students, as well as teaching two classes in business management. "He will also direct efforts toward accreditation of our business school by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and I*rograms," said Dr. Bitterbaum. Mr. Doll said his primary goal as director is to be a part of and direct a program that will be known for its excellence and quality. "Fayetteville is a growth market where I will be doing a lot of networking," he said. Mr. Doll said he has no preconceived agenda for the Reeves School, but added, "Any business school today has to address the issue of productivity and how to be more competitive internationally." Page 2 Is There Really A Co-ed Dorm Page 3 Community Bulletin Board Pages 4-5 Lion in Winter Methodist Enrolls Record Number Of Students I Margaret Folsom Receives Teaching Excellence Award Methodist College recently named Dr. Margaret Folsom, professor of biolo gy and director of the Division of Sci ence and Mathematics, Professor of the Year Dr. Folsom was norninated by both faculty and students. She is known across campus for her wit and expertise. She has taught at least 10 different sci ence courses at Methodist and has won numerous grants for the Science Depart ment in recent years. Methodist College began its 33rd ac ademic year by enrolling a record 1,072 students in its regular day program, the new total breaks the college's previous record of 1,069, set in the fall of 1967. Another 365 students enrolled in the evening program at Methodist, produc ing a total enrollment of 1,437, up 4.6 percent over last fall's 1,373. Evening enrolhnent was down seven percent from last fall's 391. Residential enrollment-the number of students living in the four residence hallS“totaled 548. This is the largest number since the fall of 1968 and repre sents a 13.6 percent gain over last M's 482. "Methodist College continues to grow both in size, reputation and nation al visibility," said Dr. M. I am proud of the entire staff at Methodist College whose creative efforts and hard work made our progress possible.: Methodist also enrolled 510 NEW students—302 freshmen and 208 trans fers. The Admissions Office reports that 292 of the new students are living on campus and 218 are commuters. The new students represent 33 dif ferent states and eight foreign countries. Sixty-six percent (335) of the new stu dents are fix5m North Carolina and 46 percent (235) are &x>m Cumberland County. Courtesy of: Methodist CoUege News Bureau Kimberly Ruth -Weaver, a junior mu sic education major from Fayetteville, was crowned Miss Methodist CoUege April 23. Miss Weaver is the daughter of Ray and Helen Weaver of Fayetteville. She was chosen from a field of 11 contestants in the 1992 Miss Methodist College Pa geant. Contestants were judged in four categories - interviews, sportswear, cas ual wear, and semi-formal wear. Kim is a graduate of Westover High School. She is a cheerleader and a mem ber of the dance team at Methodist Col lege. She docs volunteer work at a local rest home. Dana Caulder was named First Run- ner-up. The daughter of Ernest and Clau- dine Caulder, she is a senior business ma jor from Fayetteville. She is a graduate of Seventy-First High School. Miss Methodist 1992 Wendy Fulcher was named Second Runner-up. The daughter of Louis and Sharon Fulcher, she is a freshman politi cal science major from Fayetteville. She is a graduate of Cape Fear High School.
