History Professor Addresses Summer Graduates Methodist College's final summer commencement August 30, was addressed by senior faculty member R. Parker Wil son, who challenged 34 graduates to build upon their liberal arts foundation to live positive lives. Mr. Wilson told the graduates that their diplomas represent the faculty's best efforts to give them a liberal arts founda tion for a lifetime of learning. Later Mr. Wilson brought the house down with a quip he often tosses to new graduates, as they file through a cordon of faculty and staff following commence ment. "Go forth and multiply," he said. "Send your children (money) and maybe ni still be here." Four students were graduated with honors during Methodist's 19th and final summer commencement In the future, the coUege will hold commencement ex ercises in May and December only. Have you ever wondered about those students in Army uniforms walking around on campus? They belong to Monarch Company of Campbell Battalion. Monarch Company includes Fayetteville State Uni versity and Methodist College cadets. Campbell Battalion presides over Monarch Company, as well as presiding over two other companies. Brave Company (Pem broke State University) and Camel Com pany (Campbell University). Cadets spend four years learning about the Army and mastering leadership skills. The summer following their Junior year, cadets are test ed at Advanced Camp. Camp was held this year at Fort Bragg. Campbell Battalion won four out of five possible institutional awards at Ad vanced Camp this year. Five of the six Methodist College cadets who completed Camp All American won leadership award; and three of eight regimental awards went to Campbell Battalion cadets. The ROTC Fall Awards ceremony will be held Octo ber 1, 1992, at 4:00 p.m. at Campbell Uni versity. Come out and support the students who make your ROTC Program. This year, ROTC cadets have hit the ground running. Already they have raised $1500.00 at a fund-raising event, formally welcomed new veterans into the Program, and rappelled at Fort Bragg, allowing new Cadets to quaUfy for Raiders, an ROTC extra-curricular club. Raiders welcomes students from FSU and MC to join them in their activities. Events include rappelling, obstacle cours es, challenging marches, etc. Raiders is also open to new ideas, so, if you have had an experience you would like to share, give them a call.
