Volleyball teanj looks to gain momentum with recent victories By Georgette Singleton Contributing Writer Winning has not come easy for the women’s volleyball team. They have won only two games since 1994. The two victories came against Randolph Macon Women’s College at the Ferrum College Invitational on Sept. 27. The other was against Peace College on Oct. 10. The team took the court at the Ferrum Invitational giving each other high fives and encouraging words such as, “We can do this! Let’s fight to win!” They wanted this win to end their losing streak. The women showed their abilities by moving their feet, going down to dig ev ery ball, and focusing on keep ing the ball playable. Co-captain Stephanie Greene said, “Being a senior and coming off last year’s losing streak, I am glad to know we can achieve a win with all of our po tential.” Methodist Coach Brenda Hillman, in her second year at Methodist, said, “Win ning that match took the weight off our backs, and now we must leam to expect to win all the time and not settle for just that one win. That win will give us the confidence that we needed so that we can win again and again.” The team’s leading scorer was Julie Barnes with 11 kills. Methodist went on to win the match 3-2, but they lost the next three matches against Marietta 0-3, Emory and Henry 0-3, and Hollins 1-3.
