Pride Club News Monday, April 26, 1999 11 Alpha Sigma Lambda Delta Mu Delta The Eta Sigma Chapter of Delta Mu Delta, a national honor society in business administration, inducted eleven new mem ber? oTl "March 26 at Methodist College. Delta Mu Delta has a twofold mission: to promote higher scholarship in training for business and to recognize and reward business administration students who have distinguished themselves scholastically. Sigma Tau Delta The new inductees are: Donna Brunson, Todd Champagne, Ali Johnson, Dawn Parker, Katrina Sturdivant, Linda Hanlitig, Heather Origsby, Heather Hugus, - Mark Patten, and Jason Schultz. Dr. Mary Kirchner, assistant professor of accounting at Methodist College was inducted as an honorary member. Alpha Sigma Lambda, a national honor society for students in continuing higher education, held an induction ceremony on April 16. This honor society is a nonprofit orga nization devoted to the advancement of scholarship and to the recognition of non- traditional students continuing their higher education. New Alpha Sigma Lambda members include: Sandra J. Burney, Todd J. Cham pagne, Justine S. Neumann, Dawn C. Parker, Peter Riopel, Barbara Ellen Siau, and Eric Shawn Slater. Sigma Tau Delta, the international En glish honor society, held its induction on April 19. Sigma Tau Delta was formed in 1924, as an outgrowth of Dakota Wesleyan’s En glish Club. Judson Q. Owen, its sponsor and founder, established the purpose, in signia, and Greek letters of the society. The English words corresponding to the Greek letters are Sincerity, Truth, and Design, and the society’s colors are cardinal and black. Methodist College’s Alpha Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta was founded on November 20, 1995, by stu dent Lisa Rogers, with the support of Pro fessor Robert S. Christian and a small group of English majors. 1999 inductees are: Sara Anderson, Irene Carlson, Jennifer D. Everett, Cynthia Hawkins, Caroline Kearns, and Carolyn Nelson. Phi Sigma lota Phi Sigma Iota, the International For eign Language Honor Society held an in duction on April 18. Members are elected among outstanding advanced undergradu ate and graduate students of foreign lan guages and literature, as well as faculties of the institutions honored with a chapter. The primary objectives of this honor society are the recognition of remarkable ability and attainments in languages and lit eratures, the stimulation of advanced work and individual research in this field, and the promotion of a sentiment of amity be tween our own nation and the nations us ing these languages. The Kappa Gamma Chapter at Meth odist College was chartered December 11, 1985. Since that time more than 110 mem bers have been inducted. The 1999 inductees are: Yolanda Vogel Bolton, Jennifer Gamer, Sarah Glass, Kaori Ito, Valerie Johnson, Aleyzer Mora Jimenez, and Milagros Rivera. Methodist College To Hold 36th Spring Commencement Methodist College will hold its 36th commencement exercises Saturday, May 8. Approximately 164 students are candidates for graduation. Three events are planned for the college’s first-ever Saturday commence ment: an alumni brunch at 9 a.m. on the central mall, a baccalaureate service at 10:30 a.m. in Reeves Auditorium, and the actual graduation ceremony at 2 p.m. in Correction In the last issue of the Methodist College Pride, the article entitled “Student Alumni Association Fosters School Spirit” was incorrectly attributed to Lea Metz. The article was m fact written by Leslie Antoniel. The editors of the Pride wish to apologize for this error. Chi Delta Chi On Friday, April 23, Chi Delta Chi, National Organization for Veterans, held its first induction ceremony at Methodist College. Charter members included: Dr. M. Elton Hendricks, Dr. Anthony J. DeLapa, Mr. Richard D. Lowe, Mr. Douglas D. Little, Ms. Linda T. Gravitt, Mr. Joseph E. Huggins, LTC (Ret.) John M. Robbins, Chaplain (CPT.) Shannon Philio, Mr. Frank J. Orians, Kathryn Louise Atkins, David L. Baggett, Johanna Belanger, Sandra J. Burney, Steven J. Dzama, Jeannine Germain, James W. Gillich Jr., Linda Harding, David G. Hollister, Ali Hassam Johnson, Jacque Johnson, Tracy L. Kassel, Caroline F. Kearns, Billy J. Krieger, Floyd Lewis, Gregory E. Perkins, Rolland O. Reeves Auditorium. Dr. Ken Collins, professor of church history at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, will deliver the bac calaureate sermon. Dr. Collins taught reli gion at Methodist from 1984-1995. Dr. L. Gregory Jones, dean of the Di vinity School and professor of theology at Duke University, will give the commence ment address. Raymond, Sandra E. Reed, Robert B. Rose II, James C. Sabin, Sabrina Sabin, Paula Saffold, John Sandrock, Nicole Tower, Edryce Tucker, and Tyrone L. Webner. Membership is open to all students, af filiates, and supporters of veterans of the United States Armed Forces and their fam ily members. The mission of Chi Delta Chi is to create and maintain an enduring soci ety, which stimulates intellectual, ethical and social growth and encourages the shar ing of traditions and values. Its purpose is to recognize outstanding academic achieve ment of veterans and family members. Anyone who is interested may direct questions to Mr. Frank Orians at 630-7174/ 7190. Crime Stoppers 630-PATROL On April 18, 1999, the roving officer discovered that several vehicles in Pierce/ West Hall parking lot had been vandalized with light blue spray paint. Matthew Plumer’s white Mercury Cougar received damage to its left and right rear fenders and trunk. Jessica Turnbaugh’s Red Volkswagen GTI had the letter “G” painted on the right side passenger door, Annette Maynor also had the letter “G” spray painted on the right rear fender and Marisa Vernum had the letters “G” and “S” painted on the right front and rear doors. James Roush had the back rear window of his blue Toyota Paseo spray painted. There was approximately $3,400.00 total damage done to these vehicles. If anyone has any information re garding these incident, please contact Methodist College Crime Stoppers at 630-PATROL. A reward is being of fered to anyone who provides a tip that leads to the apprehension of the individual(s) who committed the crimes. Student Lyceum Features Three Three Methodist College students were selected to make presentations at the sec ond B.F. Stone Lyceum Wednesday, April 21. Mary Dewey, a junior from Autryville, N.C., will offer a dramatic reading of her short story, “Jordan Almonds.” Maria Martinez, a sophomore from Raeford, N.C., will present a lecture/slide show entitled, “For the Glorification of God: A Compari son of the Sistene Chapel and Augustine’s The City of God.” Melanie Casey, a sopho more from Fayetteville, will read a paper entitled, “Shakespearean Comedy: License for Licentiousness.” The B.F. Stone Student Lyceum is spon sored by the Faculty Collegiality and De velopment Group and endowed by the es tate of B.F. Stone. Mr. Stone was a pharmacist from Elizabethtown, N.C., who made a generous bequest to Methodist College.
