New Apartments On The Block
By Ashleigh Radford
Editor-in-Cheif
Methodist College is once
again looking to upgrade its living
conditions with the idea of new
apartments similar to the current
Cape Fear Commons.
The new apartments will be
built by First Floor; the same com
pany that built complexes for
Fayetteville State University. The
complex will consist of two three-
story buildings that will house
forty-eight students each. These
new structures will be slightly up
scale from the Cape Fear Com
mons' with each four-bathroom
apartment having its own laundry
room and four separate bathrooms.
Each apartment will have
one handicap friendly bedroom and
bathroom to accommodate Meth
odist College handicap students.
The kitchen and living room area
will be similar to the Cape Fear,
as it will be a common area.
Methodist College has de
cided to allow the construction of
these apartments to be just east of
the Pines Apartments. Construc
tion should start in March of this
current year with a completion
date scheduled by the end of July.
Although the financial as
pects are still in negotiations with
the company, school, and trustees;
if all plans are successful, two ad
ditional buildings and a community
center will be constructed in the
near future.
A new security plan for the
apartments is also under negotia
tions. College officials have dis
cussed additional lighting, more

patrols, and possibly an alarm sys
tem to secure the area.
After the apartments are
constructed, resi
dents will no longer
live in the Pines
Apartments. The
Pines will be used
for Residential
Staff and/or over
flow residents.
As plans
before set the
Pines Apartments
location as the new
location for Cape Fear Valley’s
Health Plex, this plan has slowly
diminished and will almost defi
nitely not occur, as stated by Dean
of Students, George Blanc,
“Methodist College was recently
informed by Cape Fear Valley Hos
pital that it is unlikely that we will
be able to go forth with the plans
for the Health Plex on campus. Al
though the board

Plex on campus..."
of directors
have agreed to
give the proposal
additional con
sideration it re

that the planned
health plex will
be built her at
Methodist Col
lege.”
As for the new apartments
built by First Floor, if plans are suc
cessful, there will be 235 apart
ment style living arrangements
available here at Methodist Col
lege.
Student body President Mike Brown and T.J Johnson surround convocation
speaker Dr. Genna Rae McNeil. McNeil spoke about several black women activists
during Convocation on Monday, February 3rd in Reeves Auditorium to help
celebrate Black History Month with Methodist College students.
