Former SAC Director honored
Union Station receives a new nameplate: Chris’ House
HANNAH HAMER AND LAURA PHILLIPS
Staff Writers
Union Station officially has a new
name; now it is affectionately known
as Chris’ House.
In the memory of Chris Ryan,
Methodist College staff and students
honored his life and achievements by
re-naming the student center, Union
Station, Chris’ House. February 28,
friends and family were invited to the
student center for the dedication cer
emony, which was followed by a cook-
out.
It is because of Ryan that the stu
dent center has a coffee shop, confer
ence room, and friendly atmosphere.
Members of the Student Activities
Committee (SAC) proposed that
Union Station be re-named in order to
honor Ryan’s dedication to Method
ist.
Ryan who was an employee for
several years, suddenly passed away
on Wednesday, September 24 2003.
While attending the women’s soccer
game, Ryan was stung by an insect
causing an allergic reaction that led to
his death. A student found him uncon
scious in his car. The following evening
he was pronounced dead at age 41.
Chris Ryan will always be re
membered for his outgoing personality
and as someone who always greeted
others with a smile.
Mr. Ryan, who grew up in Ra
leigh and graduated from Barton Col
lege, lived at 500 Foxlair Drive,
Fayetteville, NC 28311 where money
can be sent to the Ryan Children Trust
Fund.

Clockwise from the top: Chris Ryan’s son and wife admire a picture of
him placed in Union Station just renamed Chris’ IHouse in honor of our
former SAC Director.
A side view of the house reflects a place that was very sad to see Ryan
not there anymore.
The new sign that marks his leadership on campus will stand proudly
for many years to come.
