It T HE PE N of “victory-starved” students got tiu'ir first taste of victor}’ wlien the “Blues” trounced the “Educators” by a score of 40-19. Leading the vis itors at the lialf by 13-8, tlie “Saints” had no trouble in subduing the ‘Teachers.’ Hunter Satterwhite, who, l)v tlie way, is sliowing remark able ini])rovemcnt as the season pro- gr.s.si's, was high-scorer for the “Saints” with ] 1 tallies, wliile Hill, (■enter, was best for the visitors » * * * JAN. 21ST.—N. C.—33—ST. AUG.—24 In a return ^anie with the N. C. “Eagles,” St. Aug. made a decided ly better showing than they did in their first encounter. This game was also lost in the second period when after 11-11 deadlock at the half, I'.nnis of the “Eagles” broke away to score 14 points Melvin McDowell with 0 points was high- point man; for the “Saints,” while Ennis was once again best for the “Eagles’’ with 10. ■>.•*** JANUARY 2GTII ST AUG.—30 — FAYETTEVILLE—25 Trailing at the half by 12-18, an inspired St. Aug. quintet, returned to down the “Teachers” in the se cond stanza, scoring 18 points to Ihcir o])[)oients’ 7 Hunter Satter white starred for the “Saints” in this game when he ran amuck in the sccond period scoring !) straight points, Satterwhite was high))oint man for St. Aug. with IH, and Her- bin scored 10 to be tops for the vis itors. * * ¥ * JAN. 28TII—SIIAW-43—ST. AUG—23 The return game between the two ancient rivals, Shaw and St. Aug., was dulled considerably by excess ive f()uling and bad official breaks for the “Saints.’’ The 21} ])oints which the “Saints” netted against 4:1 for their o])])onents were earned the hard way. This is the first game I have attended in which a coach of one of the teams insisted uj)on ref ereeing as well as coaching from the sidelines. It is a pity when the moral value of athletics is supplanted by an almost insane desire to Win. 15 ut to get hack to the game. — Shaw was definitely “on,” and at the half they were leading 18-9. Elx cessive fouling turned the game into the game into a farce. R. Tillman ])laying for “Doug” Hunt who was ill, scored G points to be high point man for the “Saints” while Brock, s))eedy sharpshooting “Bears” for ward was best for his team with IS. —Randolph McAlpine » * » * The “Prei)s,” led by "Kenny” Wilson, have a “batting’’ average of .800. In five stars the “Cherubs” have been defeated only once and that was by Johnson County Train ing School by a score of 42-32. The "Preps” vindicated themselves when they beat there onetime conquerors in a return game 37-31. Henderson has twice fallen victim to the sharp- shooting "Cherubs.” In both tilts a Inst second bullseye from midcourt by "Boot” Williams was the decid ing factor in the “bringing home of ■the bacon.” In their fifth game of the season, the "Preps” had little trouble in subduing the "Torpedoes” from Durham, who liave played a close game with Hillside High, one of the better high school teams in the state. "Kenny’ Wilson has sparked the attack in all of the ‘Cherubs’ games and he has been admirably support ed bv Pullen, Fax, White, Williams and Ricks. With several of these men entering the college depart ment next semester St. Aug. can be cx))ected to make a better showing in the 1940 basketball season. —R. Me Alpine
